Gene Hackman’s Dog Zinna Likely Died From Starvation and Dehydration

It appears that Gene Hackman’s dog Zinna, who was discovered deceased in his owners’ residence about a month ago, may have passed away due to dehydration and malnutrition based on an autopsy report on the late canine.

According to a report from the state Department of Agriculture’s veterinary lab, which details partial mummification on the dog, it was stated that while it’s possible severe decomposition could have hidden changes in internal organs, there was no indication that infectious disease, injury, or poisoning caused Zinna’s demise.

Most of Zinna’s stomach was empty aside for small quantities of hair and bile, the report states.

95-year-old Hackman and his 65-year-old wife Betsy Arakawa were discovered deceased at their residence about a month ago. The authorities concluded that their deaths stemmed from natural causes. Zinna, who had recently been through a medical treatment, was found lifeless inside a bathroom crate, the very same room where Arakawa’s body was also located.

Previously, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated that Arakawa might have obtained Zinna, the dog, in a crate from a Santa Fe veterinary clinic on February 9. This could be the reason why the dog was discovered confined within the container.

Arakawa is said to have died just two days later, on February 11.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and they are doing this by utilizing data from cell phones found at the residence, along with details of the last communications made, in order to establish a clear sequence of events, as reported by Associated Press.

The situation remains open-ended until we obtain details to connect the sequence of events, as stated by Denise Womack Avila, a representative from the sheriff’s department, based on AP reports.

Previously homeless dog Zinna, now a cherished pet, was frequently by Arakawa’s side, as stated by Joey Padilla, proprietor of Santa Fe Tails, a pet care center that looks after the remaining canines.

On February 26, both Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were discovered deceased in different parts of their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. However, further investigations revealed that Arakawa passed away around February 11, aged 65, while Hackman followed suit on February 18, at the age of 95.

In the bathroom, Arakawa was discovered unresponsive, seemingly a casualty of the uncommon Hantavirus, which is transmitted by rodents. Similarly, Zinna was sadly discovered deceased within a container in the same space.

It’s thought that Hackman passed away approximately a week following his wife, possibly due to heart-related issues. Moreover, signs of severe Alzheimer’s disease were detected in him.

The couple’s two other dogs, German Shepherd Bear and Akita-shepherd mix Nikita, survived.

On their vast Santa Fe property, the first responders stumbled upon two stray dogs.

Emergency services including police officers, paramedics, and firefighters hastily responded to a residence on February 26, following the grim finding of Arakawa’s deceased body by a caretaker.

On February 26, an urgent call brought police, ambulance personnel, and firefighters to a house, where they found the unfortunate lifeless body of Arakawa, discovered by a caretaker.

Yet, they couldn’t find Hackman straight away, and even after thirty minutes had elapsed, they hadn’t managed to locate the Academy Award-winning actor yet.

They couldn’t spot Hackman right off the bat, and it was still a mystery where he was even after half an hour had passed without any success in finding him.

In my recent explorations, I found myself regularly approached by an energetic canine companion who would dash towards me, barking excitedly, then dart off to various spots before returning for more.

The first responders thought they wanted to play however this was not the case.

According to Chief Brian Moya’s statement to USA Today, they understood that the dog was attempting to communicate, in essence saying, “Over here! Over here, please come!

As they trailed the dog, it guided them straight to Hackman’s corpse in the mudroom where the dog eventually settled down beside it.

Among their pets, Nikita, the dog, seemed uneasy due to the noise and activity, and she preferred to stay close to both of her owners, as reported by the authorities.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m currently taking care of some four-legged friends at a boarding facility. They belong to a loving couple whose wills are being processed right now. Once their new homes have been established, I’ll be helping them find their forever families.

The autopsy of the couple revealed that Arakawa died about a week before Hackman on February 11.

The reason for her demise was Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, an uncommon illness transmitted by rats, which exhibits symptoms similar to the flu but has a fatal outcome in about 38% of cases, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It was around February 18 when Hackman passed away, preceding the discovery of the couple’s mummified bodies, which were found in different rooms of their $3.8 million house on February 26.

Hackman had already died by February 18; it was later, on February 26, that the authorities found the mummified remains of the couple in distinct areas of their luxurious $3.8 million home.

They were discovered in a state of decay and partially mummified. It’s believed that the arid, chilly atmosphere of the New Mexico desert might have contributed to the preservation of their skin and internal structures.

According to Dr. Heather Jarrell, the state’s top medical investigator, both individuals passed away naturally, with no indications of either internal or external injuries discovered.

On February 9, the authorities report that their pet dog, Zinna, was discharged from a vet hospital following a medical procedure. This could be the reason why she was discovered at a kennel earlier.

Jarrell pointed out that it wasn’t possible to pinpoint the exact moment of Hackman’s death with certainty, yet he estimated that it likely occurred around February 18.

Additionally, she mentioned that there was a strong possibility that Hackman might not have been aware that his wife had passed away because of the severe progression of his Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the chronology of incidents, it was reported that Arakawa retrieved their pet dog, Zinna, from the veterinary clinic on February 9, following the dog’s medical procedure.

On February 11th, it was reported that prior to visiting a farmers market in the afternoon, she engaged in an email dialogue with her masseuse.

She was spotted on CCTV cameras at CVS just minutes following the market visit, later seen at a nearby pet food shop.

Her car was then seen on surveillance entering the gated community at 5:15pm on February 11.

It’s been reported that a significant number of emails were left unread on February 11th, and since then, there has been no more activity or messages sent from her account.

Investigators have yet to access all her phone data, but they’ve mentioned that her last recorded activity took place on February 11.

In my recent exploration, I found myself unexpectedly sprawled on the floor of a quaint mudroom adjoining the kitchen, with my trusty sunglasses and walking cane conveniently placed beside me. It appears that in my attempt to navigate this space, I may have experienced an unplanned fall, based on the observations made by the authorities.

Jarrell said that there was no food inside Hackman, and that there was no signs of dehydration.

‘Mr. Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer´s disease,’ Jarrell said.

His health was extremely weak due to severe heart conditions, which likely led to his passing.

Hackman had three kids with his initial spouse Faye Maltese. For the past thirty years, he’s been wed to Arakawa, a renowned pianist in the classical genre.

In a career spanning several decades, from the 1960s to the early 2000s, the rugged yet adored actor Hackman played a diverse range of characters – from villains and heroes to antiheroes. These roles were featured in numerous dramas, comedies, and action movies across various genres. He was one of the top actors of his generation.

As a seasoned connoisseur of the art of storytelling, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary career of an individual who graced our screens with his captivating performances. This remarkable artist was nominated for the prestigious Oscar an impressive five times, with each nomination serving as a testament to his unparalleled talent. Among these accolades, he secured two coveted statuettes: one for his exceptional role in “The French Connection” in 1972 and another for “Unforgiven” two decades later.

In the mid-1980s, while working part-time at a California gym, Hackman encountered Arakawa, a pianist classically trained and raised in Hawaii.

They soon moved in together, and by the end of the decade had decamped to Santa Fe.

An individual who prefers solitude, Hackman was often referred to as a hermit after he stayed away from the limelight for several years post his departure from the film world. His acting career came to an end in 2004.
