Following Leslie’s statement to DailyMail.com during a private interview on Thursday, they revealed that they were anticipating updates from the authorities.
In their luxurious $3.8 million residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the 95-year-old actor and his wife Betsy Arakawa, aged 64, were discovered deceased on Wednesday, each in a different room. The authorities suspect they might have passed away as much as two weeks earlier.
A workman called emergency services after discovering the bodies.
Inside the house, a German Shepherd was sadly discovered deceased, as stated by Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza in conversation with TMZ. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that there were two other dogs still alive within the premises.
Leslie shared with DailyMail.com that they are yet to receive information from authorities about the reason behind the couple’s passing, as their demise continues to puzzle everyone.
On Thursday afternoon, the family released a statement, expressing their profound sorrow over Hackman’s demise.
The family added, ‘Though he was adored and respected by countless individuals worldwide due to his exceptional acting journey, for us, he remained simply our father and grandfather.’
‘We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.’
Leslie and Elizabeth suspect that their father and stepmother could have passed away as a result of breathing poisonous gas from a possible carbon monoxide leak.

She went on to say that his death, however, was ‘not terribly shocking because he was 95.’
Living in California, she mentioned that it has been several months since they last communicated or met with her secluded father, who is typically very close to her.
After a brief silence, I found myself reminiscing about our recent interactions. It had been a couple of months since we last spoke, yet the rapport between us remained as strong and harmonious as ever.
The family is yet to receive details from the police about the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the couple, as well as the exact timeline. An affidavit supporting a search warrant disclosed that the bodies exhibited signs consistent with decomposition.
In 1991, Gene tied the knot with Betsy. However, before that, he was married to Faye Maltese, a bank clerk, from 1956 until 1986. Their family consisted of three children: Christopher (born before 1956, aged 65), Elizabeth (also born prior to 1956, aged 62), and Leslie.
Leslie told DailyMail.com that Gene and Betsy had ‘a wonderful marriage.’
‘I give credit to his wife, Betsy, for keeping him alive,’ she said.
‘[Betsy] took very, very good care of him and was always looking out for his health.
‘So I am appreciative to her for that, and I’m very saddened by her passing.’
Leslie said that she’ll be heading to New Mexico once she hears back from police.
She mentioned that we should be patient and gather any relevant details from the police, as we hadn’t anticipated having to venture out there and search through the entire house.
‘So we have some work cut out for us. But yeah, we’ll be going out to New Mexico.’
Meanwhile, Gene’s nephew, Tim Hackman, also spoke exclusively with DailyMail.com on Thursday.
It was Leslie, whom he considers to be the family member with the most frequent interactions with Gene and Betsy, who informed him and his family about their deaths before it became public knowledge.
Tim, aged 51, shared that he discovered the news on Wednesday evening and felt deeply sorrowful upon learning that Gene didn’t pass away naturally.
In response to your question, he implied that his uncle was quite advanced in age, suggesting potential health issues, yet he didn’t disclose any specific details about his uncle’s health problems.
Tim’s mom Barbara Hackman was married to Gene’s brother, Richard, a stuntman who died 11 years ago.

It’s been eleven years since I last saw him in person. He typically visits California during the summer months and then chooses to reside in New Mexico after that.
Even after more than ten years, Hackman clarified that the actor who played Bonnie and Clyde hadn’t been separated from his kin.
‘He liked New Mexico. He loved it. It’s a beautiful place,’ he told DailyMail.com.
He mainly conversed with his uncle via Betsy, as he only interacted with him sporadically because Gene was at an age when he didn’t engage in much family conversation.
He went on to say, ‘I was primarily sharing information about my children and their progress, as well as my own status, since our strong bond stemmed from a shared military history. However, beyond that, it was quite limited.’
‘She’d just always say, “Oh, [Gene’s] doing good.” I mean, he was moving around a lot for 95.’
Betsy was ultimately the one who ‘took care of him.’
‘I truly believe he made it as long as he did because of her,’ Tim insisted.
As a diehard enthusiast, I’ve always marveled at the extraordinary bond between Betsy and Gene, despite their three decades of age gap. It was almost a given among us fans that the day would come when we’d say our final goodbyes to Gene first, leaving his wife to carry out the solemn rituals of farewell.
After the couple’s shocking death, Tim said that the plan has obviously changed.

‘I don’t know. It’s still very, very early.’
Last year, Hackman and Arakawa were seen out and about for the first time together in two decades.
