The season 2 finale of Gen V sparked a lot of discussion, and a potential season 3 needs to address character development and learn from previous issues. While The Boys creator Eric Kripke has said they’re working on plans for season 3, Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed its renewal yet.
Kripke urged fans to start watching the new episodes of Gen V right away. Amazon is currently tracking how many people are watching to help them decide if the show will get a third season. And if Gen V does get renewed, here’s what I hope happens.
A Return To The Franchise’s Satirical Roots

The second season of Gen V ended in a way that ironically mirrored the very tropes The Boys originally set out to critique. Instead of cleverly twisting the superhero genre, the finale fell into familiar patterns, featuring a huge, over-the-top battle and a predictable message about the importance of friendship.
The main difference between The Boys and typical Marvel or DC shows has always been its strong violence and language. For season 3, Gen V needs to recapture the franchise’s original, satirical spirit. It’s meant to be a wild parody of superhero stories, but it’s started to feel like a regular superhero show, and the creators need to course-correct.
A Break From The Formula

Even though Gen V has only been on for two seasons, it’s already established a pattern. Each season features a corrupt dean at God U, Marie and her friends discovering a dark secret about a new staff member, and everything builds to a violent showdown on campus.
Now in its third season, Gen V needs to move beyond its established pattern and explore fresh storylines. The season 2 finale hinted at this shift by leaving the God U campus behind and integrating Marie and her friends into the main The Boys team. However, after the way season 1 ended, a return to the campus always seemed possible, and ultimately happened.
Emma Needs To Finally Find Love

Throughout both seasons of Gen V, Emma has struggled to find a meaningful relationship. She often attracts people who are more interested in her ability to shrink things than in getting to know her as a person. Even when she found love with Sam, he ultimately betrayed her, leading to her imprisonment.
During the second season, Emma developed feelings for Greg, but the relationship didn’t last. The show repeatedly hints at a possible reunion between Emma and Sam, but Emma consistently rejects the idea. As the show moves into its third season, Emma needs to find a lasting relationship – and someone other than Sam, as she deserves a partner who is more reliable.
More Team-Ups With The Boys Characters

For the first two seasons, Gen V has hinted at connections to The Boys. Homelander appeared at God U at the end of season one, and Starlight helped the young heroes of Gen V when they were fugitives in season two. However, the season two finale strongly suggested a larger combination of the two series is coming.
Once Marie and her friends get away from Godolkin University, Starlight and A-Train find them and suggest their resistance groups work together. It would be exciting to see more characters from The Boys appear in season 3 of Gen V. Just picture the unpredictable Sam Butcher joining forces with the naive Hughie, or the sharp-witted Emma teaming up with the equally sarcastic Butcher.
Stop Using Andre’s Death For Dramatic Brownie Points

After the sad passing of Chance Perdomo at 27, the second season of Gen V had to be rewritten. His character, Andre, was removed from the storyline, and his father, Polarity, received a more significant role. Andre was written out with an off-screen death during an unsuccessful escape from Elmira.
The show repeatedly used the death of the actor who played Andre for dramatic effect throughout the season. Whenever they wanted to evoke a strong emotional reaction from the audience, they would reference his character’s death. However, because the actor tragically passed away in real life, constantly revisiting his death felt manipulative and exploitative.
Ryan Butcher Should Enroll In God U

I remember when we first met Ryan Butcher in The Boys – he was just a little kid! But Cameron Crovetti is growing up so fast, he’s practically 18 now. What’s really cool is how the show has taken Ryan, who initially felt like a tool to move the plot forward, and turned him into a genuinely compelling character over the last couple of seasons. I’m really invested in seeing where his story goes.
Ryan, who was raised by Homelander, is struggling with a troubling side. While he still seems fundamentally good, he’s been behaving aggressively. Throughout The Boys, his story was shaped by the conflict between Butcher and Homelander. Now, in Gen V, he has the opportunity to develop his own identity if he chooses to attend God U.
Don’t Rush The Big Bad

The revelation in Gen V season 2 that Dean Cipher had been secretly controlled by Thomas Godolkin was a huge surprise. However, it arguably came too late in the season. We only got one episode to really see Godolkin as the main villain before Marie defeated him.
The season felt a bit like the ending of The Boys season 3 – a lot of build-up for a confrontation that didn’t quite deliver because it felt rushed. When Gen V introduces its main villain in season 3, it’s important not to rush their story to a quick ending. The show needs to give the villain time to develop as a character.
Emma Needs To Learn How To Get Big On Purpose

Throughout the second season of Gen V, the show hinted that Emma would gain control of her abilities and intentionally become more powerful. However, the finale didn’t deliver on that promise.
I’m really excited for season 3! It looks like Emma’s going to learn how to control her size-changing abilities herself, which is a huge step for her. Honestly, the thought of her intentionally growing into a giant and, well, sending someone flying across the God U campus? That’s just brilliant and I can’t wait to see it happen.
Marie Needs To Finally Forgive Herself

The beginning of Gen V revealed a heartbreaking story about Marie. As a child, she didn’t understand or control her blood-bending abilities, and they first manifested when she started her period. Tragically, she accidentally killed her parents during this first episode, and she’s carried that guilt with her ever since.
With Marie making amends with her sister and discovering she can reverse death, the next season could finally see her start to forgive herself. She’s carried this guilt for so long, and deserves a chance at happiness.
Explore The Aftermath Of The Boys’ Finale

A third season of Gen V won’t happen until after The Boys concludes with its fifth and final season. The last season of The Boys will see the team make a final attempt to defeat Homelander, and if they succeed, it will drastically alter the power dynamics within the entire universe of the show.
Because The Boys exists within a larger interconnected universe of shows, the franchise can continue storytelling even after its main series concludes. If Homelander is finally defeated in The Boys’ last season, the third season of Gen V could then show what happens next – a world without Homelander and the struggle for power that would inevitably follow.
