Gemma Collins reveals she stopped Mounjaro amid fears the weight loss jab left her with agonising gall bladder attack – but she will now start ‘microdosing’

Gemma Collins is now taking very small doses of Mounjaro, a weight loss medication, because she was worried it was causing her severe health problems.

Last month, the reality TV star told the Daily Mail she experienced a painful gallbladder attack in August, which caused her to collapse.

Gemma has returned to using a weight loss medication after a brief pause. Since starting it, she’s gone from a size 26 to a size 20 and lost 3.5 stone.

Gemma explained to The Mirror that she paused her injections in August after experiencing a gallbladder attack, but doctors have confirmed it wasn’t related to the medication, Mounjaro.

I’ve been taking it easy and watching my diet. I’m considering trying microdosing because it’s supposed to provide benefits without the usual negative side effects.

As a wellness advocate, I often guide people on finding the right approach with supplements or medications. In Gemma’s case, we started with a low dose of 2.5mg and gradually increased it each week, carefully monitoring her progress, until we reached the maximum dose of 15mg. It’s all about finding what works best for you through a measured and mindful process.

But she now confirmed she will be sticking to the 2.5mg dosage as that was her favourite amount.

She described the medication as ‘life-changing,’ explaining that she’s lost around three and a half stone and managed to keep the weight off. She feels great and emphasizes that she doesn’t want to be very thin, but rather focus on being healthier. She feels she’s making good progress towards that goal.

She wants to lose a total of 6 stone, but she’s planning to do it gradually and isn’t looking for a quick fix.

According to Superdrug doctor Babak Ashrafi, gallstones are a frequently reported side effect of taking Mounjaro.

While uncommon, gallbladder issues – things like gallstones or inflammation of the gallbladder, which doctors call cholecystitis – have been reported as serious side effects. It’s important to be aware of this, though it doesn’t happen often.

Medications like Mounjaro, which are GLP-1 inhibitors, may lead to gallbladder issues. This is because they can lower levels of a hormone called cholecystokinin, which the gallbladder needs to work properly.

The Mounjaro patient leaflet also warns gallstones is a common side effect. 

A representative from Eli Lilly, the maker of Mounjaro, stated that ensuring patient safety is their primary concern. They consistently track, assess, and share safety data for all their medications with the MHRA, the UK regulatory agency.

Gemma has shown off her weight loss, but she also experienced a quicker, unexpected consequence from the injections.

Gemma worried that losing weight made her appear older and jokingly pointed out her more noticeable wrinkles in a recent Instagram post.

She explained that she was very confused about what had happened, saying it seemed to have come on suddenly. She also mentioned it had been a year since her last cosmetic procedure.

I’m not sure if it’s related to my weight loss, but I haven’t experienced the facial changes some people get with Ozempic yet – though I wouldn’t mind if I did!

As you’re aware, I’ve always had a rounder face. I do like how I look around the eyes, and I want to maintain a natural appearance. However, this current look just doesn’t feel right.
