As a seasoned viewer of television shows spanning decades, I must say that the upcoming second season of Funny Woman seems like a captivating tale worth tuning into. Having witnessed the rise and fall of numerous sitcoms, I’ve learned to appreciate the intricacies and unpredictability that come with this genre.

On Wednesday, Gemma Arterton gracefully fit the part as she attended a special screening of Funny Woman alongside her fellow actors, Alexa Davies and Morwenna Banks, in London.

In a return to our screens, the 38-year-old actress known for her role as Barbara Parker in the comedic drama will be gracing us once more, as the second season is slated to debut on September 6th.

At the exclusive viewing of season two, Gemma was absolutely stunning, showcasing her long legs in a tiny black dress.

She paired a well-structured black tailored coat with her stylish outfit, choosing transparent black stockings as well.

Gemma added inches to her frame with a pair of black court diamante embellished heels.

To finish off her appearance, she gracefully curled her brunette bob into soft waves and donned an impeccable selection of makeup.

At the same time, Alexa, aged 29, who is famously recognized for her portrayal of young Rosie in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, donned a leopard-patterned skirt.

Alexa paired her skirt with a sleek black cropped top and decided on stylish Dr. Martens boots for an evening look, choosing comfort as well.

Meanwhile, Morwenna, 62, cut a laidback figure wearing a pair of light blue distressed dungarees.

She teamed the dungarees with a hot pink T-shirt and sported a pair of comfortable Ugg boots.

Following the unveiling of initial images for the upcoming second season of the critically acclaimed comedy-drama show, Sky has decided to conduct a special preview screening.

The British actress returns to the lively 1960s yet another time, taking on the character of Barbara Parker, the beloved beauty queen from Blackpool, and the nation adores ‘Sophie Straw’, the popular comedian – once more.

In a striking change, she appears unrecognizable compared to her typical brown-haired persona, as these preview photos showcase her transformation into a radiant 1960s blonde bombshell.

From a sneak peek, it seems like the character is found behind the scenes of one of her performances, elegantly dressed in a floral blouse and green pants, getting ready to captivate the audience with her charm.

The scene demonstrates a developing bond between Gemma and Dennis Mahindra, played by Arsher Ali, whom the comedian is growing romantically involved with.

Simultaneously, it’s noticeable that Barbara is celebrated for her success under the persona of Sophie Straw, evident when she signs autographs for excited fans.

On September 6th, the new series will debut only on Sky MAX and NOW, where we’ll watch Sophie trying to balance her professional commitments with her personal relationships.

In the second season, we delve deeper into topics such as love, women’s rights, LGBTQ acceptance, and the portrayal of diverse groups within comedy, all while painting a vivid picture of the societal transformation and artistic revolution that characterized the 1960s.

The story begins with Sophie basking in popularity – as the beloved comedian on television, she enjoys a close-knit circle of friends and finds her relationship with Dennis brimming with potential.

However, difficulties are looming nearby – Dennis’ divorce process takes three years, Sophie’s new television series fails, and she discovers a heartbreaking family secret.

For the second season, we’ll be introducing some new cast members: Steve Zissis, Marcus Rutherford, Tim Key, Gemma Whelan, and Roisin Conaty.

Simultaneously, Arsher Ali will reprise his role as Dennis Mohindra, David Threlfall takes on George Parker, Rosie Cavaliero portrays Aunt Marie Parker, and Alexa is cast as Marjorie Harrison.

In October 2023, the first season of the comedy series “Funny Woman” made its debut, consisting of six episodes inspired by Nick Hornby’s bestselling book from 2014.

Barbara embarked on her transformation, starting from her days as a beauty queen in Blackpool, all the way to becoming a comedy star known as Sophie Straw. This happened during her time navigating the largely male-run sitcom scene in 1960s London.

Regarding the second season, Morwenna, the show’s writer and executive producer, expressed excitement: “I can’t wait to revisit the 1960s London setting again, this time alongside our phenomenal cast and team from ‘Funny Woman’ series two.”

Due to the remarkable portrayal of Nick Hornby’s character Sophie Straw by Gemma Arterton, we are fortunate to welcome an array of fresh guest stars onto our set.

“Look forward to outstanding acts by Steve Zissis, Marcus Rutherford, Tim Key, Gemma Whelan, Roisin Conaty, and numerous others! Don’t miss it – Tune in, Get Engaged, and Keep Moving Forward!”
