As a long-time fighting game enthusiast and community member, I’m thrilled to see GBVS Rising making its debut at Evo 2024 with a Platinum Arc World Tour qualifier. Having grown up playing various Arc System Works titles, it feels surreal that Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, based on the mobile multiplayer RPG Granblue Fantasy, is now part of this prestigious league.

As a huge fan of this weapon-based anime fighting game, I’m thrilled by its renewed competitive edge following the major overhaul.

At Evo 2024, the significance of the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising tournament cannot be overstated for the community. This event serves as clear evidence that the game is flourishing following major upgrades, and it functions as a premier qualifier for the Arc World Tour 2024 Global League. Top players from around the world unite in Las Vegas to showcase the potential of the refined mechanics and fresh characters. The victor of the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising tournament at Evo 2024 is granted a coveted direct invitation to the Global Finals event.

Where to watch Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising Evo 2024

Over 1,380 individuals signed up for the competition. We’ll have 64 preliminary groups, and the champion will be decided through five rounds.

  • Round 1: 64 pools. In this and the following pool rounds, 6 players per pool qualify for the next tournament stage.

GBVS Rising: Arc World Tour Platinum

It’s not unexpected that Guilty Gear Strive heads the Arc World Tour, given that it’s made by Arc System Works in-house. But having GBVSR (Guilty Gear Valor: Special Edition) as an equal title holder feels like a wonderful accomplishment for them. Although they contribute to developing other fighting games, like DNF Duel and Dragon Ball FighterZ, under someone else’s brand, they don’t usually make it into the official tournament circuit.

As a passionate gamer, I’d describe GBVS Rising this way: I’ve been hooked on the mobile multiplayer role-playing game, Granblue Fantasy, which has taken Japan by storm since its release. When it finally arrived in the West in 2024 as Granblue Fantasy Relink, I was thrilled to play it on my PC and console.

The original fighting game is Granblue Fantasy Versus. The community considers it somewhat basic, without the usual Arc System Works depth. The developers rebooted the project and named the improved version Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. It’s really good! The gameplay is as accessible as in the first release, featuring a simplified input scheme. But GBVS Rising also offers many new fighting options for advanced players, making it a great competitive title.

At Evo 2024, I’m thrilled to learn that GBVSR will be hosting a Platinum Arc World Tour qualifier. This is an exciting development because it means more opportunities for higher placements and a direct invitation to the Global Finals for the victor. I can’t believe there are only five of these elite events in the Arc World Tour 2024!

  • VSFighting XII: Aug. 16 to Aug. 18 in the U.K.
  • Ultimate Fighting Arena 2024: Sept. 13 to Sept. 15 in France
  • Frosty Faustings XVII: Jan. 23 to Jan. 26 in the U.S.

At GBVS Rising, unlike UNI2, there are Gold-level qualifying tournaments. These competitions award points to top performers, enabling them to aim for a spot among the global leaderboard’s top 10 and qualify for the Arc World Tour 2024 Global Finals. The Gold events maintain their significance, with notable ones such as Combo Breaker and CEO remaining on the calendar.

New characters for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising

Four DLC characters have been released for GBVS Rising in addition to the main roster:

  • Lucilius
  • 2B
  • Vane
  • Beatrix

As a dedicated gamer eagerly anticipating new content for GBVS (Granblue Fantasy Versus), I can tell you that up until now, no details have emerged regarding the GBVS Rising Character Pass 2. However, given the history of major esports events like Evo (Electronic Sports World Cup), it’s a reasonable assumption that we might learn about this exciting new addition during Evo 2024. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned for more information!

Granblue Fantasy Versus at previous Evo events

As a gamer, I’m excited to be part of the very first Evolution Championship Series (Evo) tournament for the Rising version of Granblue Fantasy Versus. But here’s the twist – last year’s Evo champion, Gamera, was crowned the victor in the original game! So, we have big shoes to fill as we compete in this year’s event.

Indeed, Gamera emerged victorious in the GBVS Rising side tournament held during Evo in 2023, which was for the beta version of the game.
