Gayle King reveals ‘so many women’ all said the same thing to her after stripping down to her swimsuit at 69 for Sports Illustrated
As someone who has spent decades in the public eye and seen it all, I must say that Gayle King’s decision to pose for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue at 69 years old is nothing short of inspiring. It takes a certain level of confidence and self-love to step out of your comfort zone like that, especially in an industry that often places unrealistic expectations on women, especially those of a certain age.

The television host, momentarily speechless following Halle Berry’s candid comment about her during her daytime talk show regarding a specific body part, expressed that she was simply “really delighted” to be featured in the magazine and felt “excited” upon discovering she had been selected for a solo cover.
She stated, “Was it courageous? For me, it was merely excitement.” To illustrate, let me demonstrate how well I am doing at the age of 69.
‘Talk about stepping outside of your box,’ she added.
She reminisced that when they contacted her, she initially believed it was a prank, as she later reflected on being asked to tackle the latest issue.
‘I did,’ she continued. ‘I thought I was being punked.’
King herself admitted that she had never dared to imagine being on the cover of the magazine, believing it to be an unattainable goal.
Later, she shared with People following the publication that it wasn’t a dream of hers.
I exclaimed, “Indeed, it stands among the most memorable experiences in my journey thus far, for I had never imagined such an accomplishment was within reach.
Besides King, Kate Upton, Hunter McGrady, and Chrissy Teigen graced individual cover pages for the 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition as well.
On May 14th, during the filming of CBS Mornings, her co-cover stars presented her with a magazine, which caused her to let out a thrilled scream.
“I can’t believe it! They said I’d only be featured inside, but look at that – I’m on the front cover! Is this for real? Will it actually be sold in stores? Wow, this is unbelievable! Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!
The broadcaster exclaimed: “I’m astounded! This is beyond anything I could have imagined in my wildest thoughts!
On the cover, King wore a printed one-piece swimsuit and coverup from Evarae.
She expressed that she desired elegant neckline exposure, and indeed, they met her expectations perfectly, she remarked regarding the swimsuits worn during the photo session.
In my case, I didn’t resort to extreme dieting; instead, I kept up with my usual workout regimen for the photo session.
Yesterday, I indulged in one of my all-time favorites – a cheeseburger. To be honest, I had planned to watch what I was eating, but somehow, the deliciousness got the better of me.
Additionally, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to inspire upcoming generations to cultivate their self-assurance within themselves.
She shared that while we understand beauty originates from within, it’s also true that others initially perceive us using their eyes, she pointed out to the media outlet.
She stated, “I believe both inner and outer beauty are important. In fact, I find that when you feel great, it shows on the outside. Age is just a number, something I don’t let define me.
For the 60th Anniversary Legends shoot, Sports Illustrated also launched three additional collectible swimsuit covers with 52 of the magazine’s past and present icons.
They assembled a collection of influential figures such as Brooklyn Decker, Christie Brinkley, Kate Love, Leyna Bloom, Lily Aldridge, Martha Stewart, Maye Musk, Molly Sims, Paulina Porizkova, Tyra Banks, and Winnie Harlow.
Regarding sharing a space with her contemporaries, who are renowned figures, she expressed that it was an enjoyable and fulfilling encounter from start to finish.
