Gavin & Stacey’s 2024 Christmas special wraps Barry filming

As a gamer with a heart for British sitcoms, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Gavin & Stacey special! Having grown up watching this beloved series, I’ve laughed, cried, and cheered alongside Nessa, Smithy, Bryn, and the rest of the gang. The news of the swansong episode has left me with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation, especially given the cliffhanger in the 2019 special.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m really looking forward to the last hurrah of the Gavin & Stacey special, where they bid a heartfelt adieu to Barry after they wrapped up production.

The eagerly awaited episode is set to serve as a farewell for the series, as it was filmed just prior to its holiday season airing in December.

The principal actors such as Ruth Jones (as Nessa), James Corden (Smithy), Rob Brydon (Bryn), and Joanna Page (Stacey) have wrapped up their shooting at Trinity Street in Barry. This week, the celebrities even took time to meet and interact with fans.

Speaking to everyone dressed up, Jones remarked, “Since we’ve been confined indoors, you haven’t had a chance to see much, but this proves you are devoted fans of the show. We promise that come Christmas Day, everything will finally become clear.

We’re bidding adieu to Barry and Trinity Street now, meaning we won’t be around here any longer. However, it’s been an incredible 17 years, and what a journey it’s been!

Corden added: “Thank you very much to everyone. We’ll see you soon.”

More recently, some photographs taken during filming hint at a wedding scene in the final episode, featuring Corden, Page, Mathew Horne (as Gavin), among others, all dressed accordingly.

Following a suspenseful twist in the 2019 special, it remains unclear if Nessa’s proposal to Smithy was accepted or not.

The confirmation of the 2024 special took place in May, putting an end to speculations that had been circulating since February, when it was first hinted at the possibility of a unique episode.

Last month, Corden announced that he was heading off to Barry Island for the upcoming seven weeks following the completion of his stint in “The Constituent” at London’s Old Vic Theatre.

Earlier, he mentioned that shooting was planned for September and October, and hinted about it during his appearance on Zoe Ball’s BBC Radio 2 Morning Program.

He mentioned that he won’t hand it over unless he feels it’s appropriate, so there are some minor modifications and tweaks needed. However, he’s eager to unveil it to others.

Gavin & Stacey series 1-3 are available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The Gavin & Stacey 2024 Christmas Special will air on Christmas Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
