Gavin & Stacey finally releases unseen footage from Bryn’s fishing trip
As a long-time fan of Gavin & Stacey, I must say that last night’s special, A Fond Farewell, was a bittersweet reminder of the joy this show has brought into my life for over two decades. The fishing trip incident has been a running joke since the early 2000s, and it was heartwarming to see Rob Brydon and Robert Wilfort reprising their roles with those retro hairstyles and VHS filters.
However, I have to admit that after all this time, the tease of the incident but not revealing the actual details left me feeling like a hungry fish on the end of Uncle Bryn’s line – still waiting for the big catch! But hey, wouldn’t it be just like Gavin & Stacey to keep us guessing until the very end?
Elsewhere in the special, the behind-the-scenes glimpses into the filming of the show and the cast reminiscing about its impact on their lives was a touching tribute to the series. It’s amazing to see how far Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, and the rest of the cast have come since those early days on Barry Island.
In the end, I couldn’t help but laugh at the superfan whose house was filled with Gavin & Stacey memorabilia – who needs a shrine when you can have an entire house dedicated to the show?
All in all, Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell was a delightful farewell that left me feeling nostalgic and excited for whatever the future holds. And as for that fishing trip incident, I’ll just keep hoping that one day we’ll finally get to see the whole story – or at least a good enough explanation to satisfy my curiosity!
Gavin & Stacey has given fans a final glimpse into their iconic fishing trip by revealing genuine video footage from the event.
The ongoing jest dates back to the 2000s, yet each time the characters seem on the verge of disclosing Uncle Bryn’s past with Jason, the conversation is abruptly ended.
As I recall, it was something chilly, soupy, and seemingly against the law in certain parts of the world. It might have even flouted the rules of physics as we know them.
Yesterday, in the exclusive backstage special titled “A Fond Farewell,” I was treated to an intriguing sneak peek of Rob Brydon and Robert Wilfort, sporting some nostalgic hairdos and a VHS-style filter, goofing off by a serene lake.
Jason reels in a large fish, at which point Uncle Bryn beams, lifting it together with Jason, exclaiming, “Nobody will be left wanting dinner tonight!” Subsequently, we observe Jason busying himself with making a soup.
Prior to revealing anything that might be questionable or against gravity, the scene abruptly transitioned to credits. In the end, just like always after so many years, Gavin & Stacey left us guessing about what actually happened.
In this special, we witnessed the filming of various scenes – starting from the initial episode to the final one set for 2024, as well as all that transpired in between. During our conversation, the cast fondly looked back on the series’ triumph and how it impacted their personal journeys.
Additionally, we caught sight of Mathew Horne and Joanna Page embarking on the authentic Dave Coaches tour of shooting spots across Barry Island, and they even stopped by a die-hard fan whose abode is brimming with Gavin & Stacey collectibles.
Last night, the final episode of Gavin & Stacey titled “A Heartfelt Goodbye” was broadcasted on BBC One. You can still watch it, along with all other episodes and specials, on BBC iPlayer.
