Gavin Henson Admits He’s Autistic, Struggles with Friendships

Previously renowned rugby player, Gavin Henson, has disclosed that he was diagnosed with autism. He confessed to maintaining minimal contact with his former teammates and acknowledges his struggle in maintaining friendships, describing himself as less than an ideal friend.

42-year-old athlete, father of two with his former fiancée Charlotte Church, admitted that he might sometimes behave quirkily and finds it challenging to socialize without alcohol.

During the recent episode of The Big Jim Show, hosted by Jim Hamilton, Gavin expressed that they’re constantly asking for something from him.

It seems more like an acquaintanceship rather than a close friendship with some of my former rugby peers. I’m not the best at maintaining friendships.

As a lifestyle enthusiast who happens to be on the autism spectrum, let me clarify that any peculiarities you may notice are simply part of who I am. It’s not about me personally, but rather an integral aspect of my unique identity. Sometimes, my behaviors might seem a bit unconventional, but rest assured, they are just as valid and valuable as any other way of being.

I don’t usually make new friends the way others do, as I find it challenging. However, if I’ve had a drink, I can open up more easily.

As a diligent follower, I’d like to share that, although Gavin has not yet obtained an official confirmation through medical diagnosis, he has embarked on a personal exploration and conversed with individuals who believe he might be on the autism spectrum.

He added: ‘For coaches and players throughout the years, it probably makes sense to them.

‘I think people found it hard to understand me. I’m a little bit different, obviously.

They constantly aimed to shape you to conform to their group, and I figured out how to mimic and feign such behavior to join them during weekends.

Or:

They consistently tried to make me fit their group by changing myself, and I learned to do that in order to play with them on weekends.

In the years between 2005 and their unfortunate separation in 2010, Gavin was in a relationship with Charlotte. They are now parents to Ruby, who is 17, and Dexter, aged 16.

Six weeks ago, word broke out about their split, following the moment when he proposed with a diamond shaped like a heart, and she happily agreed.

At that point, Charlotte expressed that our differences, while fascinating initially as we constantly learned from one another, eventually became a challenge because we were too dissimilar.

From a perspective as a lifestyle advisor, allow me to express it this way: Our beliefs and lifestyles were entirely distinct, foreign worlds to each other. His disciplined dietary habits and sleep schedules were unlike anything I had ever encountered. Conversely, my carefree approach to these aspects of life was equally unfamiliar to him. It wasn’t about conflict; it seemed like one day we both paused and asked ourselves, “Why are we continuing like this?

In 2019, Gavin exchanged wedding vows with Katie Wilson Mould during a beautiful ceremony held in Gloucestershire, and they have been married ever since.

Since 2016, I’ve been in a relationship with an incredible person, as reported by Wales Online. She happens to be the daughter of the late real estate magnate, Raymond Mould. We became engaged back in November 2018.

Currently, Katie posted a charming photo of her sparkling diamond engagement ring on Instagram and frequently updates about their romantic journey on various social media platforms.

Currently, Charlotte is wedded to musician Jonathan Powell, and they are proud parents to their daughter Freya, born in August 2020.
