Ruth Jones, known for her role in Gavin and Stacey, and Steve Speirs are creating a new comedy for the BBC. The sitcom, currently without a title, will center around a difficult divorce, and comes shortly after Jones announced her separation from her husband, David Peet.
The new comedy, starring and written by Jones and Speirs, explores the ups and downs of relationships for people in their middle years.
According to the official announcement, the comedy will focus on the friendship that develops between two people while they’re both recovering from knee injuries at a clinic.

At the clinic, 60-year-old Clive, a retired teacher who recently lost his wife, struck up a friendship with Shelley-Ann, age 55, who was in the middle of a difficult divorce.
Jones expressed his excitement about the new comedy series, saying he’s thankful to the BBC for giving them the opportunity. He shared that he and Steve are long-time friends and he always enjoys working with him, and he’s eager for the show to come out.

Spiers expressed his gratitude to the BBC for supporting their new show, and shared his excitement about working with Ruth again after three decades of collaboration.
Nick Andrews, who leads commissioning at BBC Wales, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Ruth and Steve once more. He noted that comedy is currently performing very well with large audiences, and he’s thrilled to add this new project to their already strong lineup of shows. He called it “superb news.”
Jon Petrie, who heads comedy at the BBC, was incredibly impressed with the script, describing it as immediately unique and exciting. He said it left him feeling thrilled.

He added that it’s a great honor to have such talented comedians as Ruth and Steve partner with the BBC, and they deeply appreciate the faith Ruth and Steve have shown in them.
Earlier this year, Jones surprised many by announcing her separation from her husband, film producer Peet, after 26 years together.
It’s sad to hear, but I just saw a statement from Jones saying that they and Ruth separated 18 months ago and are now officially legally separated. The good news is they’re still friends! Apparently, Ruth has moved to London, and David’s living in Canada now with someone new. I wish them both all the best.
