As a die-hard fan of Gavin and Stacey, I can’t help but feel a sense of pure joy when I read about Mathew Horne’s birthday celebration on set. The man who brought Gavin to life is not just an actor to me, he’s a dear friend I’ve grown up with over the years.

On a delightful note during filming, Gavin and Stacey’s actor Matthew Horne charmed fans by posting a heartwarming snapshot of his birthday cake on a Friday morning.

Matthew, aged 46, who plays Gavin in the popular BBC sitcom, made his initial appearance on the set on Thursday, marking a reunion with James Corden after their past disagreement.

The actor ran over to fans with his giant birthday cake, which he nearly dropped after tripping over, and asked: ‘Has anyone got any cutlery?’

Matthew was utterly amazed by the fans who backed his character ‘Gavalar’ while shooting on Barry Island.

As he walked up the hill while eating chocolate from his cake, fans sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.

Another fan shouted: ‘GAV-A-LAR!’

Grinning and giving a little curtsy, he quipped humorously: “Thanks! Does anyone have a fork or spoon here? None? Let’s gracefully enter one of these homes to fetch some utensils.”

‘I want you to take that [the cake] and share it’, he told fans.

People who made time during their day got the chance to hear Mathew express his appreciation with a round of applause: “Thanks everyone, you’re fantastic,” before quickly returning to the set.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but notice that, even though James and Matthew were once embroiled in a heated feud, the atmosphere on set seemed as smooth as silk when it came to these two legendary figures known as ‘Gavalar’ and ‘Smithster’. The past, it seems, had been left behind, at least for the time being, as they worked together harmoniously, their shared passion for their craft shining brighter than any lingering animosity.

After finishing their work on Gavin And Stacey, James and Matthew teamed up to collaborate on various comedy ventures, one of which was the movie “Lesbian Vampire Killers,” which received negative reviews from critics.

In the year 2009, they aspired to become a successful TV pair, and they even co-hosted the comedy series “Horne and Corden.” However, this production garnered poor critiques from the critics.

Instead of collaborating effectively, their professional partnership didn’t thrive, leading them to part ways. Whispers of a growing tension started swirling around them.

In contrast, while James tasted triumph on the West End with One Man, Two Guvnors, before moving to America to start his role as host of The Late Late Show in 2015, Matthew continued his career in the UK by focusing on television productions.

Speculation on the pair’s friendship continued to grow as many fans feared they had fallen out.

In 2011, during an interview with Piers Morgan, James talked openly about their past relationship, explaining that although they had grown apart, they didn’t experience a significant breakup or falling-out.

As James was asked whether he kept up with Mat, he replied: ‘Err, we talk occasionally, yeah.’

Then it became clear that Mat had been invited to join the program, but he declined. Catching his breath, James responded: ‘That’s news to me, but I get why he might have said no.’

He said they’ve always been close friends like one person for a long time. If he had to point out one thing he regrets, it was hurrying through those stages of their relationship.

‘We did our own sketch show but the reaction was fierce. It was hard to go through that. We were riding this amazing wave and then it just dropped. In one year we spent 263 days together and we went from that to nothing.’

In the flow of Los Angeles, James has been hosting The Late Late Show up to 2023. He’s gained recognition on the other side of the ocean, thanks to his famous Carpool Karaoke sessions and the Spill Your Guts challenge.

What’s your dream ending for the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special?

In 2019, I was thrilled to join James once more for the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special, and Mathew effectively put an end to any whispers about a rift between us.

At the debut event when TopMob questioned the existence of a feud, Mat clarified that all the allegations were completely fabricated, implying there was no genuine hostility involved.

In simpler terms, TopMob questioned the actor about the rumors of a dispute and whether he felt compelled to refute them when they all reunited recently. However, Matthew straightforwardly stated that those claims were unfounded, as he was present with the entire cast except James at the press conference.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that, despite previous claims of no animosity, the beloved duo is joining forces one last time for the grand finale of their iconic sitcom, gracing our screens this festive season.
