As a gamer who’s spent countless hours binge-watching sitcoms, I can confidently say that the return of Gavin and Stacey is like finding a rare, legendary item in an old-school RPG – pure joy and nostalgia rolled into one. The fact that it’s the series finale makes it even more precious, akin to completing the final quest in a epic adventure.

The debut of the complete trailer for the final installment of “Gavin and Stacy” was revealed during the finale of “Strictly Come Dancing.

On Christmas Day, the show makes its comeback on BBC One and iPlayer at 9 pm, offering a fresh, holiday-themed episode that concludes the series.

On the finale of Strictly yesterday (December 14), Ruth Jones unexpectedly joined in, playing her cherished role as Nessa to announce the rules for the dance contest.

After Nessa made her entry, host Claudia Winkleman unveiled a unique preview for the upcoming Christmas special. This special is set five years after the previous holiday installment that concluded dramatically with Nessa proposing to Smithy (James Corden) in a surprising cliffhanger.

To start things, the fresh trailer commences by depicting Stacey (Joanna Page) conversing over the phone with her husband Gavin (Mathew Horne), who’s at work, reminiscent of their relationship dynamics from the early 2000s, a heartwarming tribute to their past.

In another part of the conversation, Gwen (Melanie Walters), Stacey’s mother, recalls the well-known fishing trip, suggesting that Jason (Robert Wilfort) and Bryn (Rob Brydon) were responsible for causing a rift within the family.

In the trailer, the lively duo, Pete (Adrian Scarborough) and Dawn (Julia Davis), reappear and it looks like they’re once again locked in their verbal spats. Dawn labels Pete as a ‘contemptible little rodent.’

While Pam (Alison Steadman) and Mick (Larry Lamb) prepare their dining table for a festive meal, as suggested by the trailer, it appears that both families share some lively, boisterous dancing moments within Pam and Mick’s cozy Billericay living room.

According to the trailer, it appears that Nessa and Smithy are dancing quite intimately, hinting at flirtatious dance steps that have sparked fan theories about Smithy accepting Nessa’s proposal in 2019. We’ll only know for sure on Christmas Day…

Gavin & Stacey series 1-3 are available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The Gavin & Stacey 2024 Christmas special will air at 9pm on Christmas Day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
