Gavin and Stacey star’s 2012 BBC sitcom is now on Netflix

As a huge fan of British comedy, I can’t contain my excitement about the news that Mathew Horne’s hit sitcom “Bad Education” is now available to stream on Netflix! I fondly remember the original three-season run between 2012 and 2014, which centered around the hapless teacher Alfie Wickers (Jack Whitehall) and his eccentric students at Abbey Grove School.

From 2012 to 2014, the three-season-long show focused on Alfie Wickers (played by Jack Whitehall), a bumbling teacher, and his quirky pupils at Abbey Grove School.

Horne played the school’s eccentric headteacher Simon Fraser.

In addition to the featured actors, the production boasted Layton Williams from “Strictly,” Charlie Wernham of “Hollyoaks,” and Harry Enfield known for his work on “The Windsors.”

If you don’t currently have a Netflix subscription and would like to watch their comedy series, you have three options: 1) For just £4.99 a month, you can join the standard plan with ads, 2) The standard plan without ads costs £10.99 per month, or 3) You can opt for the premium plan at £17.99 monthly.

After the initial run of “Bad Education” proved successful, a new version of the show premiered in 2022, introducing a fresh batch of misbehaving pupils to Abbey Grove.

In the fourth season, two ex-classmates, the accomplished singer Stephen (previously Williams) and the soon-to-be father Mitchell (originally Wernham), switched places to become new teachers in the classroom.

I was thrilled last year when the BBC unveiled a sneak peek of Williams and Wernham preparing for a fresh start as filming for the fifth season kicked off.

In the initial snapshot, Vicki Pepperdine as the new headmistress Bernadette Hoburn and Horne, portraying the ex-headteacher Fraser, were present in the scene, now working in the school cafeteria.

I’m thrilled beyond belief that everyone has welcomed the latest addition to our game, “Bad Education”! Your support has brought us back with a vengeance, and we’re causing even more chaos as a powerhouse team of incredibly skilled gamers. More excitement, more laughter, more awe-inspiring moments!

Wernham expressed: “The reaction to the previous installment was extraordinary. I can’t wait for fans to discover what lies ahead in series five!”

“I’m thrilled and grateful to be working with such a gifted cast, crew, and writing team once more. The joy we all experience during production is truly remarkable.”

Horne, the actor, will once again portray Gavin Shipman when “Gavin and Stacey” comes back for a Christmas episode this year. Fans are excited to discover the outcome following the suspenseful cliffhanger in the 2019 special.
