Gavin and Stacey star to lead new heartfelt BBC comedy with a “contemporary twist”
Gavin & Stacey and Barbie actor Rob Brydon will front a brand new comedy for the BBC.
In the show named “Bill’s Included“, Brydon portrays the character of Bill Beam, a middle-aged individual who is both kind-hearted and enthusiastic, yet somewhat anxious and somewhat domineering.
Due to his divorce leaving him in a tight financial spot, he manages to get by by renting out extra rooms in his home to a group of considerably younger students.

Beyond simply differences in age causing disputes, it’s also Bill’s unique quirks that often spark conflicts: his obsession with color-coordinating silverware, his rigorous recycling schedule, his demand for collective decision-making through voting, and a host of other household regulations he’s made into rules and posted as reminders.
Regardless of their disparities, Bill and the students are likely to connect over their shared predicament. They’ll lend mutual support as they discover unexpectedly parallel challenges in college life and midlife.
Brydon is eagerly looking forward to diving into the script penned by Alex [Owen] and Ben [Ashenden], as they have crafted it beautifully, he remarked.
Owen and Ashenden also mentioned: “When we initially became acquainted as students, we connected through the books ‘Human Remains’ and ‘Marion and Geoff’. It feels surreal and oddly coincidental to now be creating a series where Rob Brydon resides with students. This is not only a fulfillment of our dreams but also a remarkable completion of a circle.
We’re overjoyed to collaborate with the fantastic crews at Baby Cow and the BBC, and we can hardly contain our excitement as we embark on bringing Bill Beam to the screen. So, don’t forget to join us, because we can’t wait for you to meet Bill!
The BBC’s Comedy Director Jon Petrie characterized it as a “cozy, character-focused sitcom filled with genuine humor and sincerity at its essence.” On the other hand, Rupert Majendie from Baby Cow Productions labeled the series as “an exceptionally well-crafted sitcom setup, infused with a clever, modern twist.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been tapped for two exciting projects! First, I’ll be part of the BBC adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved tale, “The Scarecrows’ Wedding”, set to air during the festive season. Secondly, I’m looking forward to joining the new reality competition series titled “Destination X”. Can’t wait to embark on these adventures!
Bill’s first season will feature six episodes and be broadcast on BBC One. Additionally, the episodes can be streamed online on BBC iPlayer.
The debut print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine, “British Comedy Legends,” is now available! Pick it up from your local newsstand or purchase it online for only £3.99.
