Gavin and Stacey star shares health update after “shocking” fall

Alison Steadman, known for her role as Pam Shipman in Gavin & Stacey, says she’s recovering after a bad fall earlier this year. She tripped on some uneven pavement at a restaurant and had trouble walking afterward.

She was in Dubai when the incident happened and needed to use a wheelchair for a short time while she got better.

Now, providing an update, she said: “That fall was just terrible, shocking – it was an awful time.

“I’ve got to have another operation on my foot soon, to take the metal screws out of it.”

She told the Mirror she’s thrilled to be walking again without a cane. “I’ve finally stopped using a stick, which is great!” she exclaimed.

The 79-year-old had previously told of how fortunate she felt that the fall hadn’t been worse.

She told the Daily Star that she immediately knew her fall was severe. The pain was intense, and she believes a head injury of the same force would have been fatal.

“Every time I get fed up, I say that to myself. The important thing is that I’m alive.”

Steadman recently returned to her popular role as Sue Jessop in the BBC sitcom Here We Go. The show’s third series aired over the summer and proved a hit, increasing viewership on BBC iPlayer by 70% compared to the previous series.

A fourth installment has been greenlit, bringing back the original cast including Steadman, Tom Basden, Jim Howick, Katherine Parkinson, Freya Parks, Jude Morgan-Collie, Tori Allen-Martin, Mica Ricketts, Ed Kear, and Jon Furlong.

Tom Basden, the creator of the show, shared that he considers the Jessops family like his own. He’s thrilled to be bringing Here We Go back to the BBC for a special New Year’s episode and is excited to begin working on the fourth series!

While Steadman is a familiar and beloved face on television, she shared earlier this year that she might be retiring from stage acting.

I saw an interview with her on This Morning, and they asked if it was true she’d quit doing plays because she gets really nervous on stage – basically, if she has stage fright.

The actor confirmed it was a wonderful experience, saying, “I gave it my all and truly enjoyed it, but I’m done now.”

Despite everything, she recorded voiceovers for the new musical Lovestuck at Theatre Royal Stratford East. The comedy is inspired by the true story of a woman whose first date went hilariously wrong when she had a mishap involving a toilet and a bathroom window.

Gavin & Stacey, meanwhile, broke huge ratings records when it aired its finale last Christmas.
