Gavin and Stacey‘s Larry Lamb has announced his retirement from acting.
In the latest holiday special of the cherished BBC comedy series, the actor returned to play Mick Shipman once more. The last episode, marking the end of the show, was broadcasted in 2024, a decade and four years following its official conclusion.

He shared that he becomes deeply engrossed in these characters, making them his favorites for the moment, and they effectively take center stage in his life,” he said to The Daily Mail.
To round off my acting journey in my seventies portraying a cherished character such as Mick, one must acknowledge the skillful writing team… At this point in my professional life, Mick holds a special place close to mine.
As a gamer, I’ve got to give a shout-out to the talented man, Lamb, whose acting chops stretch across TV, movies, and stage performances. Recently, he graced our screens in Channel 5’s gripping drama, “The Feud.” But if you ask any EastEnders fan, they’ll tell you about his unforgettable portrayal of the villainous Archie Mitchell from 2008 to 2010.
He mused, “My career has been incredibly fortunate, and I’ve accomplished quite a bit that makes me extremely proud – things that perhaps aren’t widely known by others.
As a performer, I’ve had an incredible journey. I’ve graced stages at the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, appeared in a dozen West End shows, and even ventured across the pond to Broadway. I’ve also had the privilege of performing in all the major fringe theaters in London. It’s been quite a ride, and I must admit, I’m content now, allowing others to step into the limelight for the bigger roles.
He mentioned some of his most significant roles that came later in his career, and he was thankful to conclude his acting journey on a successful note.
As a gamer, I can’t help but feel that being recognized is sweeter than anonymity. Especially when the recognition comes from being a cherished character – it’s the perfect way to round off a fulfilling gaming career.
