Gavin And Stacey filming! Nessa is back in her trademark leather waistcoat as she and Smithy are FINALLY reunited (but not as you think)
As a die-hard Gavin & Stacey fan with a soft spot for British humor, I can barely contain my excitement as the final episodes approach. The anticipation is palpable, and the behind-the-scenes updates only fuel our collective enthusiasm.
On Monday, the actors from Gavin and Stacey were spotted on location, marking the beginning of filming for their Christmas Day special.
In the latest episode, character Nessa Jenkins, portrayed by Ruth Jones, made a return wearing her signature leather vest and embarked on a fresh entrepreneurial journey.
The best friend of Stacey Shipman was seen carting passengers on Barry Island in a rickshaw – and she was finally reunited with Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith.
However, instead of playing his on-again, off-again romantic role in the popular BBC sitcom, James Corden was actually directing the scenes, not acting as his character.
In a lively mood upon his arrival at the seashore, the 46-year-old comedic actor-cum-co-creator maintained an air of enthusiasm. However, once shooting commenced, he shifted his attention towards achieving that ideal frame.
With his notes clutched tightly, James seemed to guide Ruth through suggestions for the ideal unfolding of the scene.
Nessa’s recent role as a rickshaw driver marks a change in her professional path, having previously worked at an arcade (SH Amusements) and served as a news producer for the BBC.
She’s had driving jobs with various acts including Gladys Knight & the Pips, The Who, and Eddie Stobart in the past.
Before filming, Ruth had lunch at Mr Villa’s fish and chip shop.
In another development, fans of Gavin & Stacey were sent into a frenzy when James posted a photo from the initial filming day of the much-awaited comeback of the popular sitcom.
In an Instagram post, the actor-cum-co-creator of our cherished comedy, aged 46, shared a backstage snapshot from the filming location, indicating that production had commenced.
The shot showed the side of James’ character Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith’s iconic blue Volvo, which he uses to advertise his builder and decorator services.
Writing on the window reads: ‘Smithy’s: If your husband won’t do it – I will… Tilin, Roofin, Plasterin, & Feng Shui. Call me on 07700978978’.
In a playful manner, James labeled the initial photo with: ‘Day 1. Let’s get started!’ and his fans erupted in the comments section, exclaiming: ‘This is making history’.
They exclaimed, “For all these years, one might have assumed that Smithy would receive a brand-new car. I’m eagerly anticipating it, more so than the excitement of Christmas itself.”
‘The question we’ve long anticipated will finally be resolved; I can hardly contain my excitement! If he doesn’t wed Nessa, I fear I might lose my cool!’
“Forget about that fishing trip or the wedding, I’m all set on making this year’s Christmas special something truly unforgettable! This isn’t just another show, it’s a moment in history; a spectacle that will have us all talking for years to come. Once it’s over, I know I’ll be hitting the rewind button again and again!”
Following a suggestion from fellow actor Rob Brydon that filming had begun, he posted a selfie with co-star Ruth Jones on Saturday, implying that production for the show was in progress.
59-year-old actor known for his role as beloved character Uncle Bryn stood alongside 57-year-old actress Ruth, who portrays Nessa Jenkins. He hinted mysteriously, “Something’s brewing… #GavinAndStacey”.
James Corden and Ruth Jones, the creators of the popular series Gavin & Stacey, have announced that the show will make its comeback in May. Filming for this new episode will once again take place at Barry Island, where it last aired a special Christmas episode in 2019.
This Christmas Day, fans can finally uncover the events that transpired during the five-year gap, as the previous episode set a record for being the most-watched non-sporting event of the past decade.
Towards the end of the episode, Smithy received a proposal from Nessa, however, the audience did not get to find out what his answer was.
Previously, it was disclosed that Rob became quite emotional upon reading the script, stating that the upcoming episode would be particularly heart-touching.
Discussing with Chris Evans directly from Laverstoke Park Farm, Rob expressed his thoughts about the last episode: “Initially, we had an inkling that something like this might occur, yet we were instructed to maintain confidentiality regarding it.”
“It’s dreadful, isn’t it? Having to deceive others. It goes against your nature to tell a lie directly to someone.”
He continued: ‘It was a couple of months before the cast saw the script. I only saw it, we were on holiday, we were away, about a month ago. I read it. Oh, it’s so good.’
When Chris questioned Rob about him needing to make the statement, Rob responded: ‘Not at all, I prefer not to. I’d rather avoid inviting bad luck, but I truly believe it’s wonderful.’
He revealed: ‘Do you know what? I was moved to tears, because it’s emotional.’
In July, James shared some significant news about Gavin & Stacey during his interview on Capital Breakfast radio, explaining that the final draft of the script was nearly complete.
Host Jordan North inquired, “Have you finished writing everything, or is there more to be added?”
James said: ‘Although it’s correctly written initially, we’re currently making revisions. This means we need to cut down on certain parts and rearrange some sections.’
In other words, my current situation is challenging due to the fact that Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa in Sister Act on the West End, and I are both involved in separate productions at the moment: Sister Act at one venue, and The Constituent at another (The Old Vic).
It appears we’ve been penning down some work in dressing rooms and various spots. After wrapping up lengthy performances, we’ve both looked quite fatigued yet eager to resume our tasks tomorrow.
‘Back at it Friday. I hope by Friday… it will be done and finished this Friday!’
Jordan then said: ‘This Friday? Is that the deadline?’
Later on, James jokingly commented: “Indeed, it’s the self-imposed deadline since we’ll be starting filming shortly. It’s getting closer fast.”
