As a long-time fan of British comedy, I must say that the upcoming Gavin & Stacey finale feels like the end of an era. Having grown up with this delightful show, it brings back fond memories of shared laughter with friends and family during those cozy Sunday evenings. The anticipation for the final episode is palpable; we’ve waited five years to find out Smithy’s response to Nessa’s proposal.

As a die-hard fan, I can barely contain my excitement! Just a few days left until Gavin and Stacey‘s grand finale, and the BBC has graced us with a tantalizing treat: a two-part special offering an exclusive peek at what goes on behind the scenes. Can’t wait to uncover the secrets that make our beloved show so magical!

A sneak peek hints that the final episode, broadcasted on Christmas Day, promises numerous surprises and is expected to astonish viewers.

In conversation about the upcoming series, Ruth Jones, both the writer and actor portraying Nessa, disclosed: “You’ll recognize some familiar characters, and there might be a couple of unexpected twists along the way.

According to co-creator James Corden (who portrays Smithy), this gathering marks the final time these characters will appear together.

The cameras captured a moment filled with festive merriment, where everyone was celebrating Christmas with alcohol, dancing, and even some limbo.

During breaks, Larry Lamb, portraying Mick Shipman, seemed moved as he admitted, “I believe the last episode will truly astound viewers. In truth, I think it will leave them speechless.

In the process, Rob Brydon shared that quite a few actors were genuinely astonished when they initially read the final script for the very first time.

Gavin and Stacey: The Making Of The Finale will air in two 12-minute shows, with part one airing on BBC Breakfast on Christmas eve at 7.50am and iPlayer.

Following actor Rob, aged 59, who portrays endearing character Bryn West on the popular BBC series, hinted that the final episode might reveal the long-awaited resolution about Bryn and Jason (played by Robert Wilfort) from their fishing trip many years back.

Although the fishing excursion was frequently hinted at, fans remained clueless about the events of that day involving him and Bryn. They were only aware that whatever transpired is considered legal in Wales.

On the Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, Rob hinted cryptically: “I won’t share it with you, but would it be something you’d actually prefer to keep unknown?

If my wife purchases a gift for me, whether it be on my birthday or Christmas, and she places it beneath the tree, then…

‘I have no inclination to go. Instead, I’m contemplating the idea of waiting and building towards something enjoyable. When the time comes for me to experience it, I’ll do so gradually, savoring each moment.’

‘I savor this moment. I hesitate to discard the packaging. I take my time to appreciate it. In fact, even after unwrapping, I might not have examined it right away. Instead, I might have savored the experience and reflected on the joy of living.’

The finale trailer released last week saw Gwen confront her son and brother-in law once and for all, demanding they fess up about what happened.

The clip sees her telling a very distressed looking Bryn and Jason: ’30 years ago you two went on a fishing trip that almost tore this family apart’.

During the podcast, Rob also shared his thoughts on what he believes contributes to the show’s enduring popularity, as it initially premiered in 2007.

He said of when they first began filming: ‘I knew it was good. They knew it was really strong.

To put it simply, I often find myself evaluating quality over quantity. Truth be told, the majority of television shows, movies, books, and even music albums don’t reach the level of popularity we call a ‘hit’, don’t they?

‘The majority tend to appear and disappear without a trace, which is fine. However, given the subject matter, being from Wales myself, I find their depiction of Wales resonates with me. The characters are exceptionally well-crafted.’

‘And all the characters are so well drawn. You know, they could all stand their own show.

“The writing is stunning. In particular, the work of James and Ruth on this script is exceptional. It rivals any other piece out there due to its masterful blend of intriguing character development and meticulously crafted plot.

After a span of seventeen years, Gavin & Stacey will conclude on Christmas Day, wrapping up their cherished comedy series with a final episode as a farewell.

The forthcoming special signals a long-awaited comeback for the BBC’s sitcom after a five-year absence, sparking great curiosity among fans as to what stories writers James and Ruth have prepared for us.

In the final Christmas special of 2019, Nessa Jenkins knelt to pop the question to Smithy, yet the audience was left wondering as they didn’t get to hear his reply.

Moreover, although several questions remained unresolved at the end, the finale is likely to tie up many of those hanging plot threads.
