Gary Barlow ‘name drops’ King Charles as he reveals what the monarch gifted him as a thank you for organising the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert
As a die-hard fan of Gary Barlow, I am absolutely thrilled to pieces about his latest revelation! The man who masterminded the Diamond Jubilee concert, which was nothing short of spectacular, has now shared a heartwarming tale about receiving a precious gift from none other than King Charles himself. A bottle of Pauillac, no less! It’s an honor that only a true music maestro like Gary could ever experience.
In 2012, when Gary Barlow was responsible for arranging the Diamond Jubilee concert for the late Queen, King Charles gratefully presented him with a gift as a token of appreciation.
The Take That star, 53, masterminded the triumphant Diamond Jubilee concert – which featured a host of stars including Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul McCartney.
As a token of appreciation for his efforts, Prince Charles (who is now King Charles) presented him with an exquisite bottle of wine.
On the Table Manners podcast held on Wednesday, Gary shared his fondness for wine, mentioning that most of his wine collection was generously gifted by others. Nowadays, he even labels each bottle with the giver’s name.
It seems that one of my priciest wines is a Pauillac. To be honest, I might as well mention this, but I was gifted it by the king, around the time of his Diamond Jubilee celebration.
Gary mentioned: ‘I arranged the concert specifically for that event. Therefore, I received a small telegram about it a few days later, but I haven’t opened or used it since.’
‘It’s actually not even in the cellar that it’s upstairs in the house.’
In November of 2012, Gary made his way back to Buckingham Palace where he received an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II. This recognition came as a result of his contributions to the entertainment world and charitable efforts.
In 2023, he reunited with the Royals once more when Take That was asked to perform at the Coronation Concert.
Last year in May, Gary, Howard Donald, and Mark Owen performed together on stage for the first time in four years during a concert held at Windsor Castle.
In their interview on Wednesday, Gary openly shared about his initial kiss with his spouse Dawn Andrews. He confessed that it took a night of intoxication to muster the courage to do so.
I’ve delved deep into the 24-year journey of my marriage to the ex-dancer whom I wed in 2000 and have three children, Daniel (24), Emily (22), and Daisy (15) with. As I share an intimate piece of our history, I recall that our first kiss transpired in the back of a van following a memorable night out.
He mentioned that our group had been in Manchester, visited a nightclub, and was now crammed inside a van on our journey back home.
We found ourselves tucked away at the rear of the van, with us seated side by side. My arm was wrapped around hers, and a thought struck me: “This is the moment, children. I’m taking the plunge.
In addition, it was disclosed that Gary and Dawn had been professional partners for quite some time prior to beginning their romantic involvement.
In 1988, I found myself working on a rather dismal video project for Virgin Records. This production spanned multiple locations, and among the talented dancers I encountered were two remarkable ladies. That’s where I first crossed paths with her, my future companion.
‘She was one of them. And so we met then just for the day, never thought anything more of it.
Over time, I ran into her at events such as Top of the Pops and the Royal Variety Performances, among others, and later, we embarked on a tour around 1995 that featured approximately 20 dancers.
In an uncommon discussion about his family, Gary explained the reason behind his kids’ decision not to pursue his well-known career path following his disclosure.
In a conversation with The Mirror, Gary expressed that his kids stand out starkly from him, as they haven’t followed his path into the entertainment industry. Instead, they’ve chosen to pursue academic professions, disregarding his own achievements in show business.
Daniel and Emily, the eldest among us, have taken an interest in medicine and physiology, specifically focusing on strength and conditioning. As for Daisy, our youngest, I can’t quite predict her future path yet, but she certainly demonstrates a strong academic inclination… unlike myself and my spouse,” he shares.
