Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington confesses he ‘can’t watch’ House Of The Dragon prequel series
As a die-hard fan of all things Game of Thrones, it is with a heavy heart that I find myself understanding Kit Harington’s (John Snow himself) feelings. Just like him, I too feel a mix of nostalgia, longing, and a tinge of bittersweetness as our beloved characters embark on new adventures in House of the Dragon.
Was Kit Harington directly questioned whether he has watched the prequel series “House of the Dragon” from Game of Thrones?
As a devoted admirer and the protagonist portraying Jon Snow throughout all eight seasons of the groundbreaking HBO series, I find myself unable to rewatch it.
He made the confession while at the season three premiere of his latest series, Industry, in New York City.
Even though people say House of the Dragon is fantastic, Kit expressed that he isn’t ready yet to re-enter the world of Game of Thrones just yet.
The London native shared, “For my part, I believe I stayed there as an actor for too long.”
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I genuinely hope they find immense joy in their chosen television series. From what I gather, it seems to be thriving quite splendidly, yet personally, I can’t foresee myself tuning in to catch episodes.
Kit also said that he doesn’t think he will watch Game Of Thrones again for ‘very many years.’
The actor expressed that it has been several years since he moved past it, but he isn’t completely certain if it’s entirely behind him yet, as he feels it requires more time to fully do so.
It’s understandable that Harington might require a considerable amount of time to completely part ways with the series given he met his future spouse, Rose Leslie, during its production.
Besides embarking on family life with a three-year-old son and an one-year-old daughter, Harington showed immense dedication not only to his character but also to the entire series during his farewell in season eight of 2019.
He expressed that it seemed as though his heart was shattering, and he held a deep affection for the show beyond what he believed anything else could compare to, during his final day on set. This moment was captured in the HBO documentary titled “The Last Watch.”
I’ve dedicated my entire life to this profession, and it has become an integral part of who I am. Reflecting upon my journey, I can confidently say that this endeavor is not just a job for me; it’s my lifeblood, my passion, and the source of my greatest fulfillment. This experience holds an unparalleled significance in my existence, and I am eternally grateful for every moment spent on it.
Interestingly enough, it was revealed that Harington’s fellow Game of Thrones actor, Emilia Clarke who played Daenerys Targaryen, shared a similar sentiment, confessing during an interview with People in June that she too finds it difficult to watch the series.
She shared her feelings, expressing that she’s unsure about the nature of the new version, as her previous experience left her feeling incredibly content and joyful. She feels that revisiting it might feel strange or out of place. However, she also mentioned how incredible it is to witness the success of the spinoff.
The British actress expressed her wholehearted backing for everything involved, as well as everyone responsible, stating that it’s marvelous to see its tremendous success.
The prequel storyline takes place approximately a century after the Seven Kingdoms were unified by the Targaryen conquest, which is nearly 200 years prior to the occurrences in Game of Thrones and around 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was born.
On its debut day, more than 10 million viewers tuned in to watch the series premiere simultaneously across regular TV networks and HBO Max, breaking previous records for HBO, according to a report by CNBC.
As a long-time fan of fantasy and science fiction, I can hardly contain my excitement about the star-studded cast for the upcoming series “House of the Dragon.” With a rich history of acting in various genres, these talented actors will undoubtedly bring their unique skills to breathe life into this epic tale.
In simple terms, it cost almost $200 million to make the entire first season of House of the Dragon, which means each episode approximately cost less than $20 million.
Compared to this, Game of Thrones spent approximately $100 million per season. From seasons one to five, it started with almost $6 million per episode, while for seasons six and seven, the cost was around $10 million per episode. In its last two seasons, the cost went up to as much as $15 million per episode.
To sum up, the parent series made an astounding $285 million profit per season across its impressive run of eight seasons, as reported by Decider.
In its initial run, House Of The Dragon garnered numerous prizes and recognition, such as a nod for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, along with eight other nominations in the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards. It also took home an award for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes.
In the latest premiere on June 16, we kicked off season two with a total of eight episodes, which concluded with its final episode on August 4.
In June, it was confirmed that the show would continue for a third season, but as of now, they haven’t revealed when exactly the new episodes will start airing.
Both Game of Thrones and House Of The Dragon are available to be streamed on HBO Max.
