Though the TV series based on George R.R. Martin’s work has finished, it remains incredibly popular – so much so that HBO Max is constantly developing new shows connected to the original. However, Sophie Turner, one of the show’s original stars, has said she won’t be watching any of these spin-offs.
HBO Max’s newest show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, launched on January 18, 2026, and has received a varied response from critics. Unfortunately, Turner won’t be able to review either this series or Season 3 of House of the Dragon.
While promoting her new six-episode series, Steal – which quickly became one of the most-watched shows, second only to Fallout – the well-known actress shared why she has no interest in watching anything related to Game of Thrones.
Sophie Turner admitted she can’t stand to watch or even hear anything related to Game of Thrones. Despite having a great experience working on the show, it now gives her intense anxiety, and she doesn’t know why.
Turner clarified that her decision not to watch isn’t a criticism of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms or House of the Dragon, saying she thinks both shows will be fantastic and wishes the cast and crew all the best. She expressed excitement for the actors and acknowledged the strength of the fantasy world the shows are set in, but confirmed she won’t be tuning in herself.
Sophie Turner Won’t Watch Game of Thrones Spinoffs, Unless …
It’s interesting to consider how the planned Jon Snow spin-off, Snow, might have changed the direction of Turner’s thinking, especially now that HBO has decided to cancel the project.
Sophie Turner and Kit Harington were two of the most popular actors on Game of Thrones. While the newer shows, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, haven’t featured many of her former colleagues, Harington starring in a show as Ned Stark’s illegitimate son – Ned Stark being the father of Turner’s character, Sansa – could have made her reconsider her previous stance.
Whether we’ll ever truly understand that question remains a mystery. Interestingly, the show’s cancellation happened around the time Arya Stark emerged – the youngest Stark sister who transformed into a skilled and ruthless assassin. She ultimately defeated the Night King, bringing an end to the Long Night.
Sophie Turner, known for her role in Steal, is incredibly busy, which is why she hasn’t been watching the Game of Thrones spin-offs, so her decision shouldn’t be taken personally. However, given the overwhelmingly positive reviews – a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – she might want to check out A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms when she has time.
