Game of Thrones: Kit Harington calls Jon Snow the “unfunniest character to have ever graced TV”
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of Westeros, I can wholeheartedly relate to Kit Harington’s desire for a change of pace after portraying the stoic and brooding Jon Snow. Don’t get me wrong, I loved every moment of his grumpy, glum character, but after eight seasons of watching him trudge through snowy landscapes and brood over the fate of the realm, it’s refreshing to see him lighten up.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve spent over a decade chuckling at countless Jon Snow memes from the Game of Thrones universe. Yet, it seems Kit Harington, who brought my beloved character to life, believes that Jon Snow is undeniably the most melancholic and gloomy figure gracing our screens. He’s now ready to explore more light-hearted, comedic roles.
Jon Snow leads a somber life as part of the Night’s Watch, safeguarding Westeros from the terrors beyond the Wall. His days aren’t filled with joy and laughter. Over time, he has faced relentless torment, deceit, and even been killed and resurrected. Given his history, it’s understandable that he might be one of the most disgruntled individuals in the Seven Kingdoms.
Following eight seasons portraying Jon Snow, actor Kit Harington is eager to tackle characters vastly different from his previous role. He’s particularly interested in delving into comedic roles, as he put it, “I have played arguably the least funny character to appear on television.” Yet, he expresses a fondness for humor, stating, “Jon Snow isn’t cut out for comedy.”
He went on to explain that new roles are “quite nice to subvert what people see him as” outside of Game of Thrones. Funnily enough, last year it was revealed that HBO was working on a Jon Snow sequel show, but the project was ultimately put on hiatus. It’s unclear whether it’ll come to fruition in the future, but certainly not anytime soon.
Kit Harington has recently shared his thoughts on his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. In an open conversation, he spoke honestly about the dissatisfying final season, acknowledging that certain aspects were hurried and fell short. “I believe there were plot-related errors towards the end possibly. I think there were some intriguing choices that didn’t quite deliver,” he stated.
Moving on to present times, Harington has expanded his fame beyond Westeros. At the moment, he is playing a morally ambiguous tech tycoon in the HBO series titled “Industry”. Additionally, you’ll find him in the horror film “The Beast Within”, directed by Alexander J. Farrell, which offers a fresh take on the werewolf theme.
