Game of Thrones creator’s In the Lost Lands labelled an “eyesore” in brutal first reviews

In the debut of the movie adaptation titled “In the Lost Lands,” which is inspired by George RR Martin’s short story, a flurry of harsh criticisms has been directed at it following its initial screening.

In this action-packed fantasy movie, directed by Paul WS Anderson, famously known for “Resident Evil,” the story revolves around a formidable and revered sorceress (portrayed by Milla Jovovich) and an enigmatic hunter (Dave Bautista). They set off on a perilous quest to find a magical artifact.

The upcoming movie, reminiscent of a short story penned by the creator of “Game of Thrones” back in 1982, titled in the anthology “Amazons II,” has received its initial reviews. Unfortunately, these reviews aren’t particularly uplifting as various critics have pointed out the film’s unattractive visual style.

Based on the initial 21 reviews posted on Rotten Tomatoes, In the Lost Lands currently boasts a rather low approval rating of 19%, a figure that may change – either increasing or decreasing – after its official premiere, as more opinions are shared.

IndieWire

The visual chaos and unattractiveness of this movie make it hard to follow, and the storyline, though allegorical, becomes muddled even for a director like Anderson. Regardless, the struggle to comprehend its appearance may prevent any potential for redemption.

The Hollywood Reporter

In contrast to most of Anderson’s works, ‘In the Lost Lands’ isn’t based on a video game. However, it carries an undeniable gaming vibe, akin to one you might find intriguing, if not enjoyable, to play.

The Wrap

Instead of dismissing Wes Anderson’s body of work so easily, it’s worth noting that his films lack an air of self-importance. He acknowledges the silliness inherent in them and finds charm in it. However, on occasion, the silliness can become tedious.

IGN Movies

It’s not merely a weak attempt at failure, but rather a shift that transforms a character-driven drama into a gritty, visually unpleasant action movie.

The Detroit News

In the enigmatic realm known as the Lost Lands, it seems that every scene was filmed within confined spaces in front of green backdrops. The visuals are so bleached out that there’s barely anything left, much like an old T-shirt frayed down to its last threads, clinging on for survival.

In the Lost Lands is in US cinemas on March 7 and UK cinemas on March 14.
