Game of Thrones creator wants to revive canceled Prime Video show Lady Jane Show

As a voracious reader and a dedicated fan of historical fiction with a twist, I have been thoroughly captivated by George R.R. Martin’s endorsement of “My Lady Jane.” Being a connoisseur of alternate history tales and a long-time admirer of Lady Jane Grey, this show seemed tailor-made for me. The idea of Jane Grey thriving in an England populated by shapeshifters is as intriguing as it is original.

George R.R. Martin, the author behind “A Song of Ice and Fire,” has been quite active on his blog recently. While he’s been vocal about his frank criticisms towards HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon,” he hasn’t confined his musings to just that. Being a connoisseur of books, movies, and TV shows, Martin has also shared his thoughts on various media he’s been enjoying lately, such as the canceled Amazon Prime Video show “My Lady Jane.

In the novel “My Lady Jane,” as penned by author Jodi Meadows, we delve into the story of a fictional character named Lady Jane Grey who, in this alternate 15th-century England, serves as queen for nine days before being deposed and ultimately facing an end that mirrors her historical counterpart. However, it’s important to note that this England is inhabited by people with the ability to transform into animals, known as Ethians. So, in essence, the story is about Lady Jane Grey if she lived in a world populated by these magical beings.

Initially, the series gained an enthusiastic audience in no time, but unfortunately, Amazon Prime Video decided to end it not long after its premiere in June. Now, fans have created a petition on Change.org, aiming to revive the show. At present, the petition has garnered approximately 70,000 signatures, and with George R.R. Martin publicly expressing his support, it’s likely that the number of signatures will surpass this figure.

As a history-loving gamer, I’ve always been captivated by the intrigue of alternate histories, and that includes the story of Jane Grey, England’s short-lived queen. It’s no surprise, then, that I found myself thoroughly enjoying “MY LADY JANE,” a creative and unique historical fantasy on Amazon Prime, which takes place in an England filled with witches and shapechangers, where our dear Jane lasts more than her famed nine days.

Meredith Glynn is one of the showrunners. I had the pleasure of working with her on one of the GAME OF THRONES spinoffs that HBO shelved a few years back, and knowing her talents, it did not surprise me that MY LADY JANE was so much fun.

Meredith Glynn teamed up with Gemma Burgess as the showrunners for the series “My Lady Jane.” Interestingly, this marks Glynn’s first known involvement in a potential spinoff of “Game of Thrones,” which has seen numerous projects in various stages of production throughout the years. Among these ongoing projects are a series focusing on Aegon Conqueror, another on Corlys Velaryon, and an animated show centered around the Golden Empire of Yi Ti.

Two other projects were once in progress but have been put on hold, such as a continuation of the Jon Snow saga and a series based in the slums of King’s Landing called Flea Bottom. It seems unlikely that Glynn participated in the Jon Snow sequel, as it was Kit Harington who brought this idea to HBO. I’m curious if she might have been part of the Flea Bottom project?

Regardless, she switched over to “My Lady Jane,” but it was cancelled. There’s a chance it might return, so if you’re fond of it, don’t hesitate to support its potential comeback by signing up.
