Game of Thrones alum Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) will narrate Civilization VII
As a long-time fan of both strategy games and epic storytelling, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of Civilization VII! With its rich history dating back to 1991, this game has always been a staple in the gaming world, and now it’s coming to consoles. And the cherry on top? The incredible Gwendoline Christie, best known as Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones, will be narrating!
The “Civilization” video game series spans across multiple decades, allowing players to construct their own civilizations, starting from prehistoric times and extending into the future. Victory can be achieved through conquest, cultural advancement, technological development leading to space travel, or other means. Since its debut in 1991, this strategy game has garnered immense popularity. Now, after more than three decades, “Civilization VII” is making its way onto consoles. And it’s exciting to know that Brienne of Tarth from “Game of Thrones” will be the narrator!
Indeed, Gwendoline Christie, the actress who portrays Brienne of Tarth, will be the one narrating. Her smooth voice is on display in a fresh trailer.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to announce that Christie has now joined an illustrious group of narrators for the game “Civilization”, a list that includes Leonard Nimoy, William Morgan Sheppard, and my beloved Game of Thrones comrade, Sean Bean. Known for his role as Ned Stark, among others, Christie has graced our screens in shows like The Sandman, Wednesday, and the Star Wars sequel trilogy, where she breathed life into Captain Phasma. Her fame is undeniable, especially considering her roots in these beloved series.
In a press release, it’s stated that Civilization VII, boasting over 30 years of franchise history, offers numerous gameplay enhancements to captivate both seasoned players and newcomers. The game is set for release on February 11, priced at $69.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox, and $59.99 on the Nintendo Switch. A deluxe edition will be available on these platforms as well, costing $99.99 on PS5 and Xbox, and $89.99 on the Switch, launching in February too.
Christie isn’t new to the trend of Game of Thrones actors dipping into the video game industry for their livelihood, particularly voice acting. Notably, Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) had a notable role as the robotic Ghost in the Destiny games. However, his portrayal (or perhaps it was the script) became so awkward that he ultimately got replaced from that role.
Something tells me that Christie won’t have this problem in Civilization VII.
