Galaxy Quest TV Series Update Sparks Excitement Among Fans

Fans get a promising update about the long-awaited television series.

According to film producer Mark Johnson, known for hits like ‘Good Morning, Vietnam’, ‘Rain Man’, and ‘The Notebook’, has shared updates on two highly-expected projects. When asked about the potential of a ‘Galaxy Quest‘ series or ‘The Holdovers’, he said plainly that “Both are being penned,” implying that we will have to wait and see.

In 2024, there’s a strong chance I would be involved in that project. It was a fortunate break, that movie. If Galaxy Quest ever got a sequel or even a limited series, we’d definitely be considered. We discussed it, you could say. Rockwell further mentioned, “Simon Pegg has expressed interest in contributing to it.” These statements were made nearly a year after Paramount+ and Paramount Television had hired Mark Johnson for production, with plans to find a writer for the project underway.

Initially, upon its premiere, I’d say the film received a mixed reception from critics. Yet, over time, it has morphed into an adored cult favorite, particularly resonating with Millennial viewers. Since as far back as 2015, whispers of a Galaxy Quest television spin-off have been circulating in industry circles. Earlier, there were whispers of a sequel to Galaxy Quest, but they faded away once the idea of a TV series emerged.

What Is Galaxy Quest About?

Under the direction of Dean Parisot and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon, this film features Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Rony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell, and Tim Allen as actors who were once part of a long-finished TV series reminiscent of Star Trek. Instead of attending convention events in their old costumes, they find themselves thrust into a genuine interstellar journey. Abruptly transported to the boundless cosmos, the crew of the fictional starship NSEA Protector must battle for their lives and those of their unexpected alien companions against a variety of formidable space creatures and ominous perils.
