Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman Replacement Will Reportedly Debut In 2027

Recent reports suggest that DC Studios is planning to introduce a new Wonder Woman, potentially as early as 2027. While James Gunn is moving forward with a fresh vision for Superman, several iconic DC characters, including Wonder Woman (previously played by Gal Gadot), are currently without a defined role in the new DC Universe.

Originally, a Wonder Woman prequel series called Paradise Lost was announced as part of the new DC Universe. However, reports indicated that this series wouldn’t actually focus on Wonder Woman herself. Recently, plans have shifted, and there’s growing excitement for a full Wonder Woman movie. This means Wonder Woman could be one of the next major heroes introduced in James Gunn’s DC franchise.

DC Studios is reportedly beginning to cast for Wonder Woman’s first appearance in the new DC Universe, potentially as early as 2027. Film industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed this information on the The Hot Mic podcast, stating that James Gunn is actively looking for an actress to play the role.

Here’s the latest: James Gunn is currently in charge of casting for Wonder Woman. Also, I’ve heard that the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ movie will mention Batman, but he won’t actually appear on screen.

This makes a Wonder Woman appearance in James Gunn’s upcoming Man of Tomorrow movie seem likely. Since there are currently no plans for a standalone Wonder Woman film in the DC Universe, it’s puzzling why they would be casting for the role unless she’s set to appear in the 2027 film.

As a huge film fan, it’s always interesting when a major character gets recast. The next Wonder Woman will have some big boots to fill – literally, Gal Gadot wore amazing knee-high boots! She played the role in eight DC films, including two dedicated Wonder Woman movies. But with James Gunn now leading the DC Universe, it seems like they’re going in a new direction, and unfortunately, that means saying goodbye to Gal Gadot’s version of the character.

Sneider reported that DC Studios is prioritizing a Wonder Woman movie. He said James Gunn and the team leading the DC Universe had discussions with potential directors before the holidays.

DC Studios is working on a new Wonder Woman movie, with Ana Nogueira writing the screenplay. Details about the project haven’t been released yet, but it’s officially in development. Meanwhile, the Superman sequel, titled Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. The film will star David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and they’ll face off against the villain Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.

Why Wonder Woman Makes Sense for Superman 2?

Now that Superman is confirmed for the new DC Universe, and with Supergirl and Green Lantern planned for release this year, many believe Wonder Woman is the logical next hero to introduce. A full-fledged DCU Batman is still quite a ways off, making Wonder Woman a perfect fit for the near future.

Although the upcoming film, similar to Man of Tomorrow, will primarily focus on Superman, other DC heroes could still make brief appearances. James Gunn’s recent Superman movie is a good example – while it starred David Corenswet as Superman, it also included characters like Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and a quick appearance by Supergirl.

Wonder Woman would be a great fit for these roles in the upcoming movie, introducing her to the DC Universe before her own movie comes out later on.

It would make sense for Supergirl to appear briefly in the first DCU movie in 2025, perhaps just for a moment. This would be a clever way to set up future, major films, and DC Studios has already shown they’re good at doing that.

Introducing a new Wonder Woman is a big step, and pairing her with a well-known hero like Superman (played by David Corenswet) could help audiences embrace her quickly. It would allow the film to highlight what makes this Wonder Woman unique compared to Gal Gadot’s portrayal, while also establishing her as a central figure in the DC universe, just as important as Superman.
