Gabby Epstein’s fans turn on her as the Australian model is slammed for bizarre post about a park bench: ‘This country is in shambles’
On Saturday, Gabby Epstein found herself facing criticism after she posted on Instagram that the country was in disarray, specifically over a park bench.
30-year-old Australian resident shared a photo on her Stories, featuring a ‘let’s chat bench’ discovered in Gold Coast, inviting individuals to engage in conversations with unfamiliar people.
Supporters swiftly criticized Gabby after she angrily hit the bench sign, prompting a flood of messages in her inbox urging her to “mature and grow up” more politely.
The benches are now placed throughout Australia, stemming from an initiative originating in the UK, aimed at combating loneliness within communities.
Each one is known as a “chat-friendly bench” and displays signs that read: “Feel free to sit here if you’re open to someone approaching to greet you.
Gabby took a picture of something she found in Queensland, commenting: “I’d be so disgusted I might vomit if someone sat beside me on a bench and began chatting.” (Or) “Gabby captured an image of something discovered in Queensland, remarking: ‘If someone sat next to me on a bench and started talking, I’d feel so sick I might vomit.’
‘This country is in shambles.’
Following the initial photograph’s distribution, which Gabby subsequently characterized as merely a jest, the model then posted another image displaying her inbox overflowing with comments criticizing her bench setup.
As a lifestyle expert, I might rephrase that statement as follows: “In my opinion, this nation seems to be facing significant challenges. However, instead of expressing frustration, let’s focus on what we can do to contribute to its betterment. Sitting idle won’t solve the problem; let’s take action.
Considering the severe hardships children are facing such as malnutrition and amputations, it seems unfair to focus on trivial matters. Let’s try to maintain a more mature perspective.
Another person sent her a message about Queensland’s stance on abortion, expressing disapproval for a celebration that resembles genocide scheduled for the 26th, discussing the current economic situation, and speculating about the potential for Peter Dutton to become our next prime minister.
‘But nah this bench got the country in shambles.’
Others added, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ and, ‘Then don’t sit there.’
Gabby shared screenshots of these messages and hit back at her 3.9 million followers.
In response to everything I’ve shared, it’s this particular item that seems to have sparked the most controversy? I humbly propose that taking a break and spending some time in nature might help us all feel better.
Among all my previous posts, it’s this one that seems to have caused the biggest stir? Perhaps a bit of fresh air and a walk in the park could do us all some good.
In another screenshot, I penned down: “Gosh, it seems like I’ve lost my senses, or perhaps they’re simply misunderstanding my jest?
Later, Gabby clarified to The Daily Telegraph on Sunday that her post regarding the bench was merely a humorous comment, and she hadn’t anticipated it would provoke such a passionate response.
She remarked, ‘Given how powerfully a seemingly ordinary picture can affect us, perhaps it’s a reminder for all of us to lighten up a bit and not make everything such a big deal.’
I was using humor when I described the country as ‘in shambles,’ it wasn’t a serious call for political action.
She added: ‘Let’s save our energy for more significant issues.’
