G2 vs Virtus.Pro – EWC 2024 Semi-Finals

As a long-time CS:GO fan and follower of both G2 and Virtus.pro, I have to admit that watching their match at EWC was an absolute rollercoaster ride for me. Having seen these teams grow and evolve over the years, it’s always fascinating to see how they adapt and perform under pressure.

We’re down to the final four at the inaugural Esports World Cup!

In an incredible turn of events, G2 and Virtus.Pro have secured impressive victories respectively, setting the stage for a thrilling semi-final clash in the EWC. The coveted spot in the first Grand Finals of the season is up for grabs, and with both teams determined to put on a spectacular show, who will ultimately emerge victorious?

Jame – The best-rated AWPer at EWC

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov has been the standout player in CS2’s brief past. However, at EWC, his teammate NiKo is outperforming him. Therefore, Dzhami “Jame” Ali is currently leading the AWP rankings, with wonderful not far behind. The unquestionable superiority of VP over Complexity also supports this shift in power dynamics. It’s clear that the entire team is in top form and ready to make waves.

On the G2 team, the players seem to be delivering strong performances reminiscent of the year 2023. All four stars are consistent, while Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač is exceeding expectations.

Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski’s role on the team remains uncertain, but the arrival of Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa has had a remarkable impact. In this particular match, m0NESY is predicted to regain his dominant form. This means we’re in for an exciting contest to determine the first finalist.

Dust2 – G2 setup an unbreakable defense

Virtus.Pro began with a successful three-round conversion in the pistol round, with Fame and Fl1t taking the initiative. The gun round set the stage for G2’s defense as m0NESY and his teammates on map A prevented VP from advancing. Showing excellent strategies, G2 managed to tie the game at 3-3. Even when it was VP’s turn with guns, NiKo was there at long range to thwart their attack with three kills. G2’s defense remained solid on gun rounds as they earned a total of seven rounds. G2’s dominance was so strong that m0NESY even stabbed n0rb3r7 in the back to secure a 9-3 half-time lead.

On the T-side, malbsMd sparked to life in G2’s entry role during their successful pistol round play at A-site. It’s become almost customary for G2 to falter against pistols, but even that trend was disrupted as they continued to control the game. VP momentarily gained an edge with a 4th round win, but Snax and his teammates wrapped up the map swiftly with the Kovač brothers leading the scoreboard.

Ancient – T-side dominance from G2

In the beginning, G2 displayed their exceptional individual abilities with a win in the first round against malbsMd. This victory ignited T side’s dominance as they accumulated nine consecutive victories. However, their progress was halted momentarily towards the end of the first half when they only managed to secure three wins in a row. This fell significantly short of their desired outcome.

In the second part of the game, G2 increased their advantage to 11 points before T-side could initiate a gun round for defense. Following this, Jame’s team managed to secure three consecutive rounds. An unexpected miss from VP’s sniper created an opportunity for G2 to claim victory. With their backs against the wall and facing elimination, VP needed to execute perfectly six rounds in a row. They started off well on an eco round but m0NESY, regarded as the best player in the world, demonstrated his skills with a stunning 1v3 performance, securing a spot for G2 in the Grand Finals.

G2 move to the EWC Grand Finals

EWC has served as a significant testing ground for both G2 and Virtus.Pro. G2 entered with a new lineup, eager to demonstrate that their roster adjustments were beneficial. Meanwhile, Virtus.Pro faces ongoing concerns about their in-game leader’s electronic capabilities.

As a long-time follower and avid fan of esports, I’ve witnessed some truly remarkable moments in the competitive scene. And let me tell you, this current season has been nothing short of exhilarating. G2, one of my favorite teams, has proven time and again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their skill and determination have carried them through numerous challenges, and now they stand on the brink of greatness – ready to carry their flag to the Grand Finals.

During the competition, NaVi has been gaining strength with Valerij “b1t” Vakhovsjkyj putting up impressive 1.50+ ratings in fierce battles against Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo. When b1t is at his best, NaVi is a formidable team to reckon with. As for G2, they’re still enjoying their early successes. Whoever advances from the upper bracket will likely be the favorite to emerge victorious.
