G2 vs Virtus.Pro – EWC 2024 Semi-Finals

As a long-time CS:GO fan and follower of both G2 and Virtus.pro, I must say that today’s match left me utterly speechless. I’ve witnessed countless encounters between these two titans, but this one was something else.

We’re down to the final four at the inaugural Esports World Cup!

As a gamer, I’ve witnessed some breathtaking victories from G2 and Virtus.Pro throughout this season. Now, these two formidable teams are set to clash in the EWC Semi-Finals with the first Grand Finals at stake. The tension is palpable as we await an explosive showdown between them. Which team will emerge victorious?

Jame – The best-rated AWPer at EWC

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov has been the standout player in CS2’s brief past. However, at EWC, his teammate NiKo is outperforming him. As a result, Dzhami “Jame” Ali now leads in AWPing with wonderful following closely. The unyielding supremacy of VP over Complexity adds to this trend, but it’s clear that the entire team is prepared and poised for success.

On the G2 team, the players gave an impressive display similar to what we might expect in 2023. All four stars consistently performed well, while Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač went beyond expectations.

Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski’s role on the team remains uncertain, but the arrival of Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa has brought great improvements. In this clash, m0NESY is expected to regain his superior form. As a result, we’re in for an exciting match determining the first finalist.

Dust2 – G2 setup an unbreakable defense

Virtus.Pro began with a three-round advantage in the pistol round, with Fame and Fl1t taking the lead. The gun round initiated G2’s defense as m0NESY and his teammates on map A prevented VP from advancing. Showing excellent strategies, G2 managed to tie the game 3-3 when guns were put away. Even during Virtus.Pro’s attack, NiKo stood firm at long range, securing three kills. G2’s defense remained unyielding in gun rounds as they accumulated a total of seven rounds. G2 demonstrated such control that m0NESY dealt the final blow to n0rb3r7, ending the first half with a score of 9-3 for G2.

On the T-side, malbsMd sprang to life in G2’s entry role, turning their pistol round at A-site into a win. It’s become customary for G2 to struggle against pistols, but they managed to overcome that hurdle as well, maintaining control of the game. VP found some relief with a fourth round victory, but Snax and his teammates soon wrapped up the map, with the Kovač brothers leading the charge in points.

Ancient – T-side dominance from G2

In the beginning, G2 demonstrated their exceptional individual abilities with three quick wins against malbsMd during the opening round. This strong start propelled the T side on a winning streak, accumulating nine rounds in a row. However, they fell short of their goals before the half ended, only managing to secure three more rounds.

In the second half, G2 increased their advantage to 11 points before T-side could begin to mount a comeback during the gun round. Following this, Team Jame managed to secure three consecutive victories. An unexpected error from the VP sniper presented an opportunity for G2 to claim victory. With their backs against the wall and facing elimination, VP needed to play perfectly in the remaining rounds. They achieved the first one on an economy round, but m0NESY demonstrated his world-class abilities with a stunning 1v3 performance, ensuring G2’s place in the Grand Finals.

G2 move to the EWC Grand Finals

EWC has served as a significant testing ground for both G2 and Virtus.Pro. G2 entered with a completely new team, aiming to demonstrate that their roster adjustments were an upgrade. Meanwhile, Virtus.Pro faces ongoing concerns about their in-game leader situation in the electronic realm.

As a long-time observer of the esports scene, I’ve seen my fair share of teams rise and fall. But G2, with their consistent performance and unwavering determination, have always stood out to me. Now, they carry their flag into the Grand Finals, an achievement that is no small feat in this highly competitive world. Their opponent will be either MOUZ or NaVi.

During the competition, NaVi has been gaining strength. Valerij “b1t” Vakhovsjkyj has been putting up impressive performances against Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo with ratings over 1.50. When b1t is at his best, NaVi can be a formidable team. As for G2, they’re still enjoying their early success. Whoever advances from the upper bracket will likely be considered the front-runner to win.
