After the post-game interview with G2 following their match against EDG, Valyn discussed whether the defeat had a humbling effect on him and his team at all.
G2 Esports has demonstrated they’re among the top VALORANT teams globally. They ruled the Americas region and advanced to Masters Bangkok, only experiencing their initial loss of 2025 there, under Jacob “valyn” Batio’s leadership.
Currently holding the VALORANT championship title, Edward Gaming outplayed G2 Esports with a 2:1 win. During the post-match press conference, we questioned the G2 In-Game Leader about whether their team, having been labeled as the best in the world beforehand, felt humbled by their loss.
G2 IGL valyn says the team is still confident following the Masters Bangkok loss to EDG

Maintaining an unbeaten streak creates significant expectation for athletes, both personally and from their supporters. However, this pressure can be slightly alleviated upon experiencing the initial defeat. This is particularly true if there’s room for recovery and another opportunity to regain momentum.
Following an exhilarating and highly anticipated VALORANT Masters Bangkok series between G2 Esports and Edward Gaming, we made our way to the post-match press conference. Initially, it was G2 who took the stage, prompting us to inquire if anyone felt a sense of humility following their loss.
It was valyn who decided to answer on behalf of the G2 squad:
As a gamer, let me tell you, I’m ready to conquer this challenge ahead. I don’t believe it will humble me, but rather, I’m confident that we maintain a humble approach, always recognizing every game as a fresh start. We strive to give our best and aim for the same results, just like in any other game we play.
In terms of learning how to adjust as a team and play various metas against diverse styles, today was particularly enlightening for us. I believe EDG executed an outstanding game plan which challenged us in ways we hadn’t experienced this year, so I commend them for their strategy.
However, it seems we underestimated their approach, and frankly, I am familiar with my team. When cornered, they demonstrate incredible resilience. Therefore, while I acknowledge the challenge, I am neither concerned nor overwhelmed by it.
I’m relieved that we suffered this defeat during the regular season instead of in the playoffs, since I believe we’ll emerge victorious next time. It’s just part of the sport – you’ll lose some games, but you’ll win others. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes and remain hopeful.
Jacob “valyn” Batio, G2 Esports VALORANT In-Game Leader
In the upcoming match, G2 will face off against one of the two squads that manage to avoid elimination, both having an opportunity to join EDG and Team Vitality in playoff qualification. You can either watch the entire press conferences or click here for a direct look at the Q&A session.
