G2 and Michael Romanidis at Race of Champions 2025
20-year-old sim racer Romanidis emerged victorious in the 2025 eROC tournament held in Sydney, Australia. To provide some background, the eROC competition mimicked the real-life ROC event where prominent drivers from Formula 1, World Endurance Championship, Rallying, and NASCAR participated.
Due to his win in the eROC tournament, the driver from G2 Esports found himself competing directly against drivers like four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas, nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastian Loeb, David Coulthard, and others.
Michael Romanidis at ROC 2025: From a childhood dream to reality
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but express my awe at how The Race of Champions is bridging the gap between sim racing and real-life racing by giving us a chance to experience the thrill behind the wheel. It’s truly mind-blowing to compete against these seasoned racers in the same arena, and seeing names like Sebastian just makes the experience all the more humbling. It’s a dream come true!
He went on to express that being involved in this occasion held significant prestige due to its rich background, and since 2009, Romanidis has closely observed the world of Formula 1 racing.
He mentioned that he has been following this particular event since he was young, and participating in it now feels surreal. He thinks it might take a couple of days for the reality of the situation to fully set in.

2025’s ROC was won by Loeb, but it was Romanidis’ participation that marked G2 Esports’ initial driver qualification for a real-life ROC competition. This achievement was hailed as a noteworthy milestone by the team.
This accomplishment further highlighted the strengthening bond between sim racing and conventional motor sports, presenting fresh avenues for digital racers aspiring to race alongside motor sports legends.
