Fury over Katy Perry music video filmed in protected area without permission – as authorities in Majorca issue fine

Outrage is mounting due to a Katy Perry music video being shot in a protected region without proper approval – leading to fines from local authorities in Majorca for this violation.

Last summer, the 40-year-old American musician filmed scenes for her song “LIFETIMES” within the Ses Salines Natural Park, which is located on the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain.

The filming event occurred within a prohibited region spanning approximately 40,000 acres of both land and marine areas across the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, a protected region to which entry is severely restricted.

Approximately one year later, the Balearic government has imposed a fine of €6,001 (roughly £5,197) on the production company responsible for the video released alongside the single on August 8 last year, according to the Majorca Daily Bulletin.

It appears that the company, who quickly made their payments, was operating without the necessary permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Natural Environment for entering a designated area meant to safeguard unique ecosystems, as reported by Europa Press.

The officials acknowledged that the offense was significant, however, since no permanent harm was observed within the surrounding environment, no further punishments were deemed necessary.

The southern part of Ibiza (a popular party island), its northern neighbor Formentera, and the sea connecting them form a natural park that’s safeguarded due to its abundant wildlife diversity.

Specifically, it serves as a significant resting and breeding ground for migratory birds, and boasts a UNESCO World Heritage section along the Mediterranean coastline.

This specific area, labeled as having exceptional scenic and rural charm, boasts some of the most beautiful beaches found in the Balearic Islands. It offers a captivating blend of dramatic cliffs, lush forests, and open plains.

Investigations were initiated in July of the previous year following the observation of Ms Perry on the environmentally sensitive sand dunes of Isla de S’Espalmador, a petite island located off the northern coast of Formentera.

Since 1980, this approximately 340-acre piece of private land, tightly enclosed, is included within the boundaries of the Ses Salines Nature Park.

She was additionally captured dancing in several other protected areas of the island and the neighboring Ibiza, famous for their sunny tourist attractions. This led to speculations about whether her activities were legitimate.

At that point, government officials stressed out that no request for filming permission had been submitted for shooting on the location.

According to a report by L’Independant, the production company received the smallest possible fine for this type of violation as per French law.

The area encompassing S’Espalmador and the adjacent Ses Illetes beach, located at the northernmost point of Formentera, has been a focus of conservation initiatives by local officials for quite some time.

As a devoted nature enthusiast, I can’t help but brag about the exceptional beauty of the Balearic Island’s dunes that I’ve fallen in love with! These dunes are truly the best-preserved treasures in the region, providing unique habitats for an incredible variety of local plants and animals that you simply won’t find anywhere else.

The Balearic Islands, located off the coast of Spain, are often chosen for celebrity photoshoots. However, Ms. Perry’s recent violation has reignited a conversation about striking a balance between these activities and preserving the delicate ecosystems found there.

Environmental advocates caution that, despite careful management, potentially valuable ecosystems may still face threats from even the most well-organized projects.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that my latest release, “LIFETIMES,” is a track from my seventh studio album, titled “143.” This masterpiece dropped last September as part of my musical journey.

As a die-hard admirer, I’m thrilled to be sharing that I’m right smack in the heart of the Firework sensation’s worldwide Lifetimes Tour! This extraordinary journey kicked off in April and is all set to wrap up in December. What an unparalleled privilege it is for me to catch her live performances at a plethora of international venues!

However, according to The Sun’s report, the singer’s latest tour saw fewer ticket sales compared to previous ones. Moreover, it seems that the new album hasn’t been as warmly embraced by fans as some of her past work.

Recently, the American musician announced that she and her longtime partner, the 48-year-old British actor Orlando Bloom, had ended their engagement – marking a significant setback for her.

Since the year 2016, this pair has been involved romantically. They announced their engagement in the year 2019 and have a four-year-old child named Daisy Dove together.

Ms. Perry was among five notable women who faced criticism for their April Blue Origin space journey. She subsequently expressed that the experience left her feeling physically discomforted, using the words “battered and bruised.

The star faced extensive backlash due to appearing insensitive, as they opted for a brief and costly 11-minute journey during a period when numerous people worldwide were struggling financially.

Representatives for Katy Perry have been approached for comment.
