I have to say, out of all the teams competing, FURIA really stood out at the Thunderpick World Championship 2025! If you look at how they’ve been doing lately, it’s clear they’re consistently getting better and better – it’s been awesome to watch their progress.
The event was thrilling from start to finish. While the outcome – a victory for one of the top contenders and a tough showing for the underdogs – wasn’t a huge surprise, the competition was remarkably close throughout, even in the early group stage matches. The championship match itself was truly outstanding!
A key focus of CS2 esports tournaments happening in October and November is how well the leading teams are performing before the Budapest Major. The recent Thunderpick World Championship 2025 showed that many top teams are struggling, with FURIA being the most consistently strong performer.
Struggles of the underdogs
The tournament setup promised a compelling competition between teams expected to win and those considered long shots. The two groups were designed with a mix of lower-ranked and highly-rated teams.
It did not go too well for the underdogs, though.
- OG and Venom gave a decent fight to FURIA and Aurora. Despite the close scores, they couldn’t secure even one map.
- 9z got badly beaten by The MongolZ with a 13:5 and a 13:3 on two maps.
- Imperial were the only ones to take a map. They won on Mirage against NAVI.
FURIA to the top!
While most of the other leading teams struggled during the Thunderpick World Championship 2025, FURIA easily advanced to the final—and ultimately won the championship.
- FURIA showed the fighter spirit in their match against The MongolZ. The first map had a 19:15 overtime. The opponents could not recover after that.
- FURIA had a confident win over Aurora in the semifinal, including a 13:5 on Overpass.
The CS2 TWC 2025 grand final started as a potential disaster, as FURIA lost two maps.
- Little did we know doubting the comeback potential of this roster, as FURIA stuck back brilliantly. They started with a close map win over NAVI and then completed this reverse sweep with a 13:1 on Train. It’s especially remarkable, considering the positive record of Natus Vincere on this map.
Just snagged another win for FURIA on FISSURE Playground #2 – feels good to add that trophy to the collection! We had a really strong run at ESL Pro League Season 22 too, but Vitality were just too tough to beat this time around.
Rollercoaster of NAVI
While FURIA has been doing well, it’s clear that this NAVI team is currently struggling with consistency. Their recent results have been very up and down, creating a lot of uncertainty.
- NAVI reached the top 4 at IEM Cologne 2025.
- The team couldn’t make it to the top 8 at the EWC 2025 and BLAST Open Fall 2025.
- NAVI won a smaller tournament, StarSeries Fall 2025, to claim $200,000.
- They barely make it to the top 8 at ESL Pro League Season 22 and lose the opening Playoffs match.
It’s not about whether they win or lose; NAVI isn’t playing consistently well. They started with a loss to Imperial and then struggled on Dust II against Aurora, falling far behind before managing to recover.
Despite leading 2-0 in the grand final and experiencing a disastrous 1-13 score on Train, NAVI clearly has some internal issues to address following the Budapest Major.
The MongolZ and Aurora have a lot to work on
Just recently, The MongolZ were considered one of the best Counter-Strike 2 teams in the world. They consistently improved throughout 2025, culminating in a victory at the Counter-Strike 2 EWC 2025 championship.
After that, in Season 22 of the EPL, The MongolZ unfortunately performed poorly and lost to several underdogs. As a result, they didn’t qualify for the Playoffs.
The MongolZ are currently in 3rd place at the Thunderpick World Championship 2025, but they haven’t been performing at their usual high standard.
We weren’t surprised by Aurora’s performance at TWC 2025. They’re a team of highs and lows – capable of incredible plays, but also prone to making critical mistakes, much like reaching the championship at EWC 2025 only to falter when it mattered most.
Let’s hope The MongolZ and Aurora can improve and prepare well before the season’s most important tournament.
Several teams will get extra practice before the Major at the PGL Masters Bucharest 2025, taking place from October 24th to November 1st. Aurora is one of the teams taking advantage of this opportunity, along with other participants from the TWC 2025.
The best Counter-Strike 2 teams are competing in Chengdu from November 3rd to 9th at the IEM event. FURIA will use this as an opportunity to see how they stack up against strong opponents like MOUZ, Falcons, and Vitality.
