FURIA to run over G2 and qualify for the Budapest Major Playoffs

One of these teams can secure a quarterfinal spot on their second tournament day.

This match is a best-of-three series. The winning team moves on to the playoffs of the CS2 Budapest Major, while the losing team will still have two more opportunities to qualify.

FURIA and G2 on flawless runs at the Budapest Major. One to be interrupted

G2 and FURIA only had one match that looked like it might be difficult at the Counter-Strike 2 Budapest Major. That was FURIA’s first-round game against NAVI, but FURIA completely dominated. They didn’t lose a single round in the first half and ultimately won the match 13-2 on the map Nuke.

All the other opponents have an estimated lower level.

FURIA on a mission

  • FURIA defeated Imperial in Round 2. They had an excellent first half again, 11:1, so FURIA advanced to this match with a 13:5 on Dust II.

Before the big Major tournament, my team, FURIA, had a really good run, actually winning both the Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2025 and the BLAST Rivals Fall 2025 tournament over in Hong Kong. It gave us a lot of confidence going in!

G2 back in form?

G2 Esports had a chance for similar dominance in their Round 1 match.

  • In the first half on Mirage, G2 was at an 11:1 lead against Passion UA. The opponents made the gap smaller at the end, 13:7.
  • paiN Gaming could be named a bigger danger, as this team reached the top 4 at the Austin Major. However, their decision to skip tournaments for preserving VRS points affected paiN’s competitive form. G2 won with a 13:8 on Dust II, having a nice 9:3 lead in the first half.

G2 Esports had a mixed season, culminating in a victory at the BLAST Open Fall 2025 in London. While they showed improvement with the win, their overall tournament performance was inconsistent. They finished in the top 11 at EPL Season 22, but were eliminated by 3DMAX. A highlight was their 2-0 victory over FURIA during that tournament.

The final two Swiss rounds of Stage 3 at the Budapest Major 2025 will take place this weekend, December 6th and 7th. Following a short pause, the top Counter-Strike 2 esports teams will compete in the Playoffs, beginning on December 11th.
