Jodie Sweetin looked back on her first experience with alcohol in a candid new interview.
The 43-year-old actress, known for her role on Full House, says she first had alcohol at age 14, at Candace Cameron Bure’s wedding. She wants people to remember she’s more than just tabloid headlines.
She shared on the Skinny Confidential podcast that her first experience with alcohol was at age 14, at a wedding for someone named Candace. She described herself as someone who would lose consciousness when drinking, even back then.
She described the ordeal as ‘awful,’ ‘ugly,’ and ’embarrassing,’ adding, ‘My mother was horrified.’
Jodie recalled, ‘I was at the table, and I was drinking, and — I was across the room from my mom.
They started with a glass of wine, and soon they were pouring refills. I politely asked for another serving too.

The actress admitted she was upset and regretted her actions afterward, but she also realized something important in the moment.
She recalled thinking, “That was really fun!” and realized it was the beginning of a long period of enjoying a lively, social life.
Jodie explained that she realized around ages 15 or 16 that she was drinking and partying more than her friends, and they told her to slow down.
I’d think, “Right, now I need to find someone to use drugs with.” Or, I’d look for people who wouldn’t make me feel guilty about it.
Jodie recently shared her experiences with overcoming drug addiction during an interview on Kaitlyn Lowry’s podcast, Barely Famous.
The actress, originally from Los Angeles, became famous playing Stephanie Tanner on the TV show Full House, which aired from 1987 to 1995, and later reprised the role in the Netflix series Fuller House.
After Full House went off the air, she turned to alcohol as an antidote to boredom and loneliness.
She later found herself abusing cocaine, crystal meth and ecstasy.

Jodie observed that while millions struggle with addiction, her own experience received more attention simply because she was a public figure.
She explained that she believes she would have faced challenges with addiction even if she hadn’t been in the public eye.
Looking back, having worked as a child actually helped me access treatment and support I might not have otherwise. However, it’s been difficult dealing with those past experiences and mistakes playing out in public, she explained.
Her road to sobriety wasn’t an easy one and she relapsed before getting sober for good.
She described a cycle of getting treatment for alcohol use in her twenties, having children, achieving sobriety, relapsing, and then regaining sobriety.
It’s been a challenging journey, but I’ve been sober for 16 years. I did have a setback with medication 13 years ago, which coincided with a car accident.
