Full House’s Dave Coulier shares ‘positive’ message from chemotherapy session amid Stage 3 lymphoma battle
Oh, the resilience and strength of Dave Coulier, the beloved Joey Gladstone from Full House, is truly inspiring! As a die-hard fan who’s grown up with his antics and laughter, I can’t help but feel a deep connection to this man who’s been such an integral part of my childhood.
Dave Coulier, widely recognized for playing Joey Gladstone on Full House, has conveyed a message of optimism to his followers while battling cancer.
On a Friday, the 65-year-old actor shared on Instagram about his ongoing struggle against stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a few days following his disclosure of the diagnosis during an interview on the Today show.
Sharing a cheerful selfie during a chemotherapy appointment, Coulier exuded optimism, expressing, “I’m finding the silver lining and sending warmth to everyone enduring and going through chemo. Don’t forget to chuckle!
Earlier, it was disclosed that Coulier communicated about his medical diagnosis to his fellow Full House cast members through a collective text message.
This chat involves Jeff Franklin, the show’s creator, along with John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, Andrea Barber, and Scott Weinger, who are all part of the cast.
From 1987 to 1995, Dave Coulier played the jovial character Joey on the television series Full House. He reprised his role for its Netflix continuation, Fuller House, which aired from 2016 until 2020.
Instead of sending the news to others, the actor who hails from St. Clair Shores, Michigan, chose to personally inform people via a text message.
He expressed it as, “I simply replied with an assurance, ‘I’ll be there.’ Just let me know when, and I am confident that you are in capable hands with my wife, Melissa Bring. However, I wonder if there is anything we could arrange together?
Coulier, known for his work on hit series like Robot Chicken, How I Met Your Mother, and It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, expressed that the group’s affection towards one another is truly heartwarming and profound.
‘We’ve been there for so many years for each other and it’s pretty remarkable.’
Coulier stated that the relationships within the cast have remained robust for almost three years now, ever since Bob Saget’s passing in January 2022 at the age of 65.
He expressed that our shared life is not just valuable, but so are our individual lives as well. He cherished the pleasant experiences and joyous moments we’ve experienced together. This, he believes, has a contagious effect on others, creating an overall positive impact.
With that particular group, there aren’t many downsides – it’s mostly about shared joy and optimism. We deeply value the blessings in our lives and the companionship of those close to us.
Coulier told the outlet that Stamos was visiting him Saturday, after he undergoes chemotherapy.
Coulier eagerly anticipates his visit on November 16th, as he has a chemotherapy appointment scheduled for the 15th.
He said of Stamos: ‘He goes, “If you want to just sleep, I’ll just sit by you or if you want to listen to music or just talk, whatever.” And I’m just like, “Wow. That’s like a brother. That’s just truly a brother.”‘
On the Today Show earlier this week, Coulier revealed that he received his diagnosis a month ago following a prolonged battle with an upper respiratory illness. He shared this information with a magazine.
Initially, I had a minor cold, but then I received devastating news – I have cancer. This unexpected turn of events took me by surprise, leaving me feeling overwhelmed. Essentially, my life’s course shifted dramatically in a short span of time, much like a sudden, exhilarating roller coaster ride.
According to Coulier, cancer has a history in his family, as he lost his mother, sister, and a niece to breast cancer.
His older sister Karen is also going through cancer at the moment.
He reflected, ‘Given the resilience I’ve witnessed in those women of my family, if I could merely emulate one-tenth of a percent of their strength, I would have no cause for worry.’
2022 saw Coulier disclose that he had struggled with alcohol addiction. Following a brutal fall under the influence, which resulted in him sporting a bloodied visage, he made the decision to live alcohol-free.
In the announcement on Instagram, Coulier revealed that he had been two years sober.
