David Momoh, a groom on Married At First Sight, recently shared the surprising reason he gave up his ambition to be a rapper.
I’ve been following this guy for a while now, and it’s been tough to watch him get so much criticism. People have been accusing him of only going on the show to get famous and promote his music, which is really unfair. He’s 31 and works in e-commerce, but all anyone seems to focus on is his ambition, especially regarding the 2026 season. It’s frustrating to see him constantly under fire for simply wanting to pursue his dreams.
David says he’s completely moved on from rapping, though his Instagram posts suggest otherwise.
If you check out his page, you’ll find lots of videos of him rapping about common hip-hop themes like money, success, and relationships. He raps in a convincing American accent and delivers his rhymes perfectly.
I’ve noticed David really leans into a certain image – lots of posed photos where he looks super tough next to expensive sports cars, relaxing by the pool, and showing off his physique. Honestly, it feels like he’s always practicing for a hip-hop album cover!
People often left enthusiastic comments on his videos, complimenting his style and confidence. He’s gained a significant following of 12,700 – a great accomplishment for someone just starting out as an artist.
He once had a record deal with a famous international label, but surprisingly, he left right as his music career was beginning to take off.
He even performed at the Good Life Festival in Brisbane in 2023, alongside R’n’B star DJ Horizon.
David firmly believes he made the right choice when he stopped working on the project years ago, and he stands by that decision.
I find that amusing,” he said to the Daily Mail. “People assume I’m still focused on rapping, but I gave that up quite a while ago.
And the reason? The music business didn’t match the dream.
The TV personality, originally from Nigeria, grew frustrated with the entertainment industry, feeling that the focus on making money in hip hop didn’t align with his artistic vision.
‘If you’re not Drake or Central Cee, the reality is it’s tough,’ he admitted.
I’m thirty now, and honestly, I’m okay with it. I’ve put out a few house music tracks, but I’m not focused on becoming famous. I really enjoy my work as a web developer and I’m content with that.
He shared that despite the impressive visuals fans enjoyed, the actual process was a difficult and exhausting struggle that made the work lose its appeal.
For David, the business of music started drowning out the art.
‘Music’s just in my soul,’ he said.
‘I’ve played heavy metal, rap, now house. It’s not about fame for me.’
David says he didn’t participate in Married at First Sight for fame or to boost his public image. He signed up because he wanted to fully experience something unique.
‘Public perception can go either way,’ he said.
‘I could be a villain to some, a hero to others. All I care about is staying true to myself.’
He insists that part of the reason he agreed to MAFS was to shed his prior image.
‘I feel like a lot of women think I’m just a womanising party boy and they get put off,’ he said.
Although his Instagram still features content reminiscent of an aspiring rapper, David has announced he’s giving up on his hip-hop dreams. He’s now focused on a traditional job and openly looking for a relationship.
