From trendy top knots to festive fashion and a surprising Geordie accent…. as Cheryl makes a rare appearance onstage with son Bear, 7, all the times we’ve seen (and heard) her only child with Liam Payne
As a fan who has followed Cheryl and her family’s journey for years, I can’t help but be amazed by how fast Bear is growing up. It feels like just yesterday when we saw him in his adorable Christmas outfits with his mother. Now he’s dressing up in suits and staring at billboards in London’s Leicester Square.
Although he might hold a significant role in Cheryl Cole’s life, her young son Bear Payne is seldom spotted in public – that is, until very recently.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted the seven-year old onstage with his famous mother in May, as the newly reformed Girls Aloud prepared for a soundcheck at Sheffield Arena.
In simpler terms, a grainy video from Instagram showed Cheryl, wearing a tracksuit and holding hands with her son Bear, looking out at an empty venue. Cheryl is the ex-girlfriend of Liam Payne, and Bear is their sole child.
The singer kept the child’s face hidden, as he had done since the child’s birth, to shield his identity, a practice he had firmly adhered to.
Despite this, committed supporters have observed and listened carefully enough to identify the young man based on his remarkable growth, frequent hair makeovers, and distinctively recognizable Geordie voice.
In the year 2008, a young and enthusiastic 14-year-old named Liam stood in line amongst countless others, eager to impress X Factor judges: Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, and a 24-year-old Cheryl.
The judge smiled broadly after the defendant gave a mischievous wink, yet it didn’t prevent him from getting eliminated from the competition.
He wouldn’t be gone for long, and once he returned, he’d experience the worldwide acclaim reminiscent of the Beatles era, supported by the popularity of One Direction.
In 2015, I was thrilled beyond words when my favorite band graced the stage of The X Factor for an electrifying live performance. And then, only a few short months afterward, my heart skipped a beat as I read the rumors – which soon proved to be true – that Liam and Cheryl were an item! What a rollercoaster ride of emotions for this devoted fan!
I kept my followers in suspense for quite some time before finally revealing my pregnancy news in a very public setting – during a photo shoot for L’Oreal. There, I donned a form-fitting black dress that accentuated my growing belly, proudly showing off my baby bump to the world.
On March 22, 2017, the singer introduced her newborn son to the world, revealing his unique name to fans. Shortly after, fans got a peek at the little one, being held by his father.
After that, Bear, the son, has occasionally shown up in his mother’s social media updates. In photos she posted in 2018 and 2019, he can be seen wearing a fashionable top knot hairstyle.
In one image, he wears Beats headphones around his neck, and his face is angled away from the camera, displaying his unkempt brown hair tied together with a band.
Back in 2019, I was absolutely ecstatic to hear that my beloved Girls Aloud bandmate, Kimberley Walsh, shared some heartwarming news about her boys forming a special friendship. Her elder son and Cheryl’s toddler son, who were both around two years old at the time, had become the best of friends!
I, as an over-the-moon fan, couldn’t contain my excitement when I saw Girls Aloud’s star post a peek on Instagram of her little one, seldom seen before, during our enchanting adventure to Lapland UK.
Kimberly posted a picture of Bobby, Cole and Bear all sat facing watching a festive show together.
I, too, shared a photo on Instagram from my visit to Lapland UK last week. Clad in a bright red winter coat, I strolled through the festivities, holding hands with my dear son.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Cheryl added humor to Instagram Stories by sharing the initial clip of her son Bear speaking for the very first time.
I, as a devoted fan and observer, notice that the toddler in the video shares the distinctive Geordie accent of his beloved Newcastle-born and raised mother.
During Cheryl’s heartfelt tribute to NHS workers, her three-year-old child, Bear, suddenly bursts in with laughter and requests for snacks and a trip to the playground.
Several months passed before the singer shared some images of her son with her followers, adorning her house with extravagant holiday décor and hunting down coordinating elf costumes for herself and the baby during Christmastime.
Last year, in an adorable Instagram post from 2019, Cheryl excitedly announced: “Santa, we’re all set!” as she showcased her chosen outfits along with those for her little companion Bear.
Last Christmas, Cheryl posted a delightfully amusing and heartwarming voice message of her son Bear on Instagram Stories on a Tuesday.
In the spirit of the beloved holiday film “Home Alone,” he shares with his audience: “Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year, you lovely creatures!”
The singer could be heard giggling at the end of the message.
In the year 2023, Bear made an appearance once again on his mother’s Instagram feed, where she commemorated her forty-first birthday with loved ones.
Cheryl was accompanied by her mother Joan, acting veteran Jake Wood from EastEnders and 2:22 A Ghost Story, as well as her former Girls Aloud bandmates: Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle, and Kimberley Walsh.
Kimberley brought along her husband Justin Scott and their three sons Bobby, Cole and Nate.
At the party, Bear gave Joan a heartwarming hug which Cheryl captured and shared as a delightful video clip. After everyone tried their luck at axe throwing.
At the fireside, Bear donned a suit, seated beside Bobby, eldest son of Kimberley, prior to Cheryl’s birthday dinner.
Liam, referred to as Dad, has likewise posted pictures featuring Bear. One of these images shows Bear gazing at Liam’s single advertisement in Leicester Square, London, with his face hidden from view.
He captioned the shot: ‘I want to be on a billboard one day daddy’.
Fans immediately rushed to the comments failing to believe just how quickly Bear had grown.
I proudly witnessed my children’s development in a brief TikTok clip. In the video, Liam and Bear, clad in a black hoodie hiding their faces, strolled next to me.
