From sheer disasters to frock horrors: A look back at the WORST fashion faux pas at the 2024 Dally M Awards ahead of NRL’s night of nights

The fashionable partners of NRL players – often called WAGs – are expected to be a highlight at the 2025 Dally M Awards, showcasing their impressive and stylish outfits. It promises to be a visually stunning event.

The yearly awards ceremony, celebrating the best players in rugby league, is also known for its fashionable displays. It’s essentially a combination of recognizing athletic achievement and a style showcase. Rugby league’s finest are honored, but the event also provides a platform for players and attendees to express themselves through their clothing.

Some people dress to impress at the glamorous event, while others prefer to be more carefree and spontaneous.

Although the Dally Ms are advertised as a formal, black-tie affair, they frequently feature more daring fashion choices as the wives and girlfriends of players (WAGs) compete to be noticed by the photographers.

Judging by last year’s event, this year’s red carpet, starting Wednesday night at the Winx Room in Randwick Racecourse, is expected to be just as glamorous.

Those hoping to make a good impression – the wives and girlfriends of famous athletes, or WAGs – might benefit from reviewing some of the less successful fashion choices from last year’s event.

The Dally M green carpet saw a bold display of fashion choices as wives, girlfriends, and athletes arrived, with daring thigh-high slits, low-cut necklines, and some questionable style moments taking center stage. Risqué outfits were definitely on display!

Although they all could have been remarkable, many were let down by bad – and often thoughtless – design choices.

Miranda Cross, who is dating South Sydney Rabbitohs player Cameron Murray, wore a blush pink outfit from Velani. The look was specially made for her in only three days.

The strapless mini dress featured an under layer of lace that touched the floor.

Although the outfit looked good from the front, it didn’t really show off her figure well from any other viewpoint. It wasn’t particularly flattering from the side or back.

Molly Hughes, who is the partner of Storm’s Jahrome Hughes, selected a dress that was cut to fall just above her upper thighs.

Penrith Panthers captain Isaah Yeo’s fiancée, Ashleigh Camenzuli, looked radiant as she walked the carpet. However, she surprisingly chose a gown reminiscent of a wedding dress, which was a bit too large for her small figure.

Gabrielle Peak, who is partners with Newcastle Knights player Kalyn Ponga, looked stunning in a sparkling black dress. The dress had one shoulder and a short, flowing train.

However, the beautiful blonde didn’t quite succeed when people realized how nearly she revealed too much of her rear end because of a very high-cut design. This tailoring error was one of several issues that occurred throughout the evening. It was a night filled with mishaps.

Lily Pickles, who is in a relationship with Herbie Farnworth – a centre for the Dolphins – didn’t quite impress with her outfit. She wore a black, strapless dress featuring a large corset and kept her accessories to a minimum.

Gold Coast Titans player Jaime Chapman made a striking entrance, attracting attention with her outfit. She arrived on the carpet wearing a dazzling black dress covered in sequins and lace.

Although beautiful, Jaime’s outfit featured a very high slit – almost reaching her waist – which risked exposing too much. The daring cut didn’t really showcase her amazing figure, but she still managed to impress everyone watching.

Tigers player Kezie Apps arrived at the event in a stunning strapless Clair Davu Harmony Gown. The dress featured a corset design that accentuated her chest and waist.

But the look seemed better suited for a night at the opera rather than the Dally M awards.

Stunning Cronulla Sharks captain Tiana Penitani, who is married to former NRL player Aaron Gray, also caught people’s attention with what she wore.

She chose a form-fitting, salmon pink Rick Owens Prong Gown, costing $1760. It accentuated her slender figure.

However, this time the outfit didn’t suit her well, and it actually looked quite difficult to move in – which was a problem considering how long the event lasted.

Although wearing black is often a reliable choice, the gown worn by Foxtel host Hannah Hollis didn’t quite flatter her figure. It had unusual, spike-like details around the neckline.

Former rugby star Ruan Sims had a similar faux pas with a misaligned, awkward neck design.

Nevertheless she pulled the look off with her signature poise and grace.

Sydney Roosters player Isabelle Kelly, accompanied by Jake Callister, made a bold fashion statement by ignoring the dress code and wearing a striking gold outfit that highlighted her toned physique. It was a daring choice that showed off her impressive abs.
