From Popstar Dreams to Private Life: What Happened to Javine Hylton?

She burst onto the scene when she appeared as a contestant on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

And singer Javine Hylton has come a long way from her days trying to earn a spot in Girls Aloud.

43-years-old and still a pop sensation, I nearly didn’t make it into the band, but that setback only fueled my passion. Instead, I took the stage alone and embarked on an incredible solo journey.

Three years after that, she notably participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK, performing the song “Touch My Fire” alongside her son.

Additionally, she made tabloid news when it was revealed that she had a romantic involvement with rapper MC Harvey, who at the time was married to Alesha Dixon. The two eventually became parents to a child as a result of their relationship.

Since then, Javine has appeared on several reality shows and she welcomed two more children.

TopMob takes a look at where the star is now.

Javine, who grew up in Ladbroke Grove, Kensington, started in the world of showbiz at a young age.

As a child, she attended a theater school and starred as Nala in a two-year run of The Lion King on London’s West End stage.

To The Guardian, Javine expressed that her initial goal was to pursue a dance career, never envisioning herself as a singer.

She expressed that she wasn’t fond of singing. At her regular school, there were constant altercations, so she decided to enroll in a stage school when she was 10 years old because she had a passion for dancing instead.

Later on, Javine joined the throng of thousands who tried out for Popstars: The Rivals, a show that formed competing girl and boy bands to compete for the top spot in the Christmas charts.

In simpler terms, the singer reached the finale of the contest and was among the six females left, eventually being placed in a five-member team.

Even though Javine was considered most likely to win, she just missed out on becoming a member of Girls Aloud, with Sarah Harding ultimately taking that spot instead.

As a passionate devotee, I embarked on my own musical journey, unveiling my debut single titled “Real Things” the very next year. This heartfelt melody climbed up the charts to land at the esteemed position of number four.

Towards the end of that year, Javine had the opportunity to perform as the warm-up act for rap artist Nelly during the British segment of his worldwide concert tour.

Despite putting out an additional three hits that reached the Top 20, she was let go by her recording company in 2004, as her debut album, Surrender, barely made it onto the charts.

Despite the minor setback, Javine managed to keep her spirits high, as the very next year, she triumphed in the Make Your Mind Up competition, earning the opportunity to represent the United Kingdom in the yearly Eurovision Song Contest.

In that particular year, competing alongside the UK’s representative were artists such as Gina G who participated in 1996, the singer Andy Scott-Lee, and the well-known model Katie Price from her glamour modeling days.

Regrettably, the performance of the song didn’t meet expectations at the show held in Kyiv, Ukraine; it ended up in the 22nd position, trailing behind both France and Germany.

Javine gained fame by performing in the West End production of “Daddy Cool,” but her stage career was eclipsed by her private life when she started a romantic relationship with her fellow actor, MC Harvey.

At that moment, they were both involved in separate romantic partnerships. Interestingly, Harvey had tied the knot with Alesha Dixon, a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, just a year prior to this incident.

As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but feel the sting when word got out about my beloved couple’s betrayal. It all started when Karl ‘KG’ Gordon spotted Harvey’s vehicle parked outside Javine’s residence and tipped off Alesha, who bravely faced the music by confronting her husband about it.

The duo faced strong criticism from the general population, leading to a significant decrease in Javine’s public favor due to being called a “homewrecker.

In 2008, Harvey chose to live with Javine instead of Alesha, and they became parents to a baby girl named Angel. However, their relationship ended a year after that.

In the year 2022, a member of So Solid Crew publicly expressed remorse for having been involved with Javine. He described their relationship as “toxic” and confessed that confessing his past actions to his then-wife Alesha was the most difficult thing he had ever had to do.

On the James English podcast, the rapper shared his feelings: ‘Leaving Javine’s place felt strange. After departing from her home, I was on my way back to mine, my marital home. Just two miles away, she (Javine) called me and said “I know, I know” as I arrived at my driveway.’

‘The worst thing I’ve ever had to do is tell a woman I cheated on her.’

He went on to say: “She had been watching TV, then she paused it, and my heart dropped. She asked, ‘Harvey, for how long has this been happening?’ And with that, the conversation ended.

“I believed she intended to harm me severely. To this very moment, those were the most harrowing two days I’ve ever experienced within my home.

He remarked: “News outlets reported about it, and everyone seemed to despise me. I was unfaithful in love. My mental state was incredibly distressing. In a matter of just two days, I went from being adored in a high-profile relationship to being reviled. However, the blame lies with me.

As I navigated the chaos that ensued, I experienced the Alesha chapter in my life and later found myself with Javine, the mother of my child. In hindsight, it was not a relationship that I should have pursued.

‘It was a toxic relationship and I escaped from it and I got out of the whole situation’.

During an appearance on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Alesha Dixon – a past champion and judge of Strictly Come Dancing – disclosed that she experienced feelings of being “adrift” and “void” as her marriage to Harvey ended.

She mentioned that she hadn’t eaten for several days and found herself seated on her home’s floor. She confessed feeling disoriented, struggling to find the right words. Questions like ‘Why is this happening?’ and ‘What did I do wrong?’ began to cross her mind.

Later in her career, Javine moved into television roles, making appearances on Channel 4’s sports talk show “The Game” and the celebrity edition of “Come Dine with Me.

She has since welcomed two more children, both boys, although has kept their names private.

As a lifestyle advisor, I can share that I’ve transitioned into a more secluded phase, focusing on nurturing my family – especially my precious children. The public eye, while exciting, is now a distant memory for me.

In a recent Instagram post showing her son’s first rugby practice, she expressed: “Being a mom brings me so much joy, and I absolutely adore it.
