From Overwatch 2 to Stranger Things: How Azazus creates anthems to believe in

Azazus recently shared details about his future music projects with Xpsp, including new songs for Overwatch 2 and a theme for Stranger Things.

With the recent finale of Stranger Things, rapper Azazus quickly released a new song to honor the show – something he’s known for, having previously created raps for Overwatch characters like Sombra and Sigma. His latest track, called “Believe,” is a tribute to Stranger Things, and he recently spoke with us about it, as well as his future plans for Overwatch 2 music.

“At the core, it’s a belief anthem.”

Azazus releases iconic Stranger Things anthem

Azazus explained to Xpsp that he created the Stranger Things theme song to be fast-paced, aiming to make listeners feel the same excitement as the characters. He initially tried reversing the original theme, but it didn’t feel urgent enough. Ultimately, he decided on a quick, driving beat to get people energized and encourage them to participate, almost like a chant.

Azazus explained that the song’s countdown reflects the desperate race against the dangers of the Upside Down, but also represents the feeling of trying to savor precious moments before they’re gone. Ultimately, he sees the song as an uplifting message about the power of belief – just like Mike’s unwavering faith in Eleven, everyone wants someone to believe in them.

The song’s accompanying video is also well-crafted, telling a story through its visuals. It shows the characters growing from hesitant children into confident heroes.

I really hope viewers pick up on how the characters gradually change throughout the story,” he explained. “You see them grow from hesitant children into confident heroes, becoming the main drivers of their own narratives. We’ve also included small hints about Henry’s journey – he’s a character who always felt overlooked and experienced a lot of pain and loneliness. We’re not trying to justify his actions, but rather to highlight the incredible strength that comes from feeling supported and connected in this world.

The song’s second verse is particularly strong, showing Will connecting with Vecna’s power and easily defeating the Demogorgons. Lyrically, it focuses on the character embracing and realizing their full potential.

You can listen to the main theme song from Stranger Things now—it’s available on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal.

Azazus x Overwatch 2 collaborations

After collaborating with Carolina Ravassa, the voice of Sombra, and Boris Hiestand, who voices Sigma, Azazus is now looking to create music inspired by other Overwatch heroes, starting with the new track based on Vendetta.

I really like the character Vendetta and I’m eager to create something featuring her,” he explained. “I initially planned to focus on the established characters before moving to the newer ones, but Vendetta immediately caught my attention when she was first introduced.

He mentioned to Xpsp that he’s finishing up several Overwatch 2 music projects. He’s aiming for a unique quality in each track, wanting every hero’s theme to sound genuine. That’s why he believes it’s crucial to work with the original voice actors.

I’ve got a lot of Overwatch songs I’m working on,” Azazus explained. “Most of them are pretty much finished. I’m just seeing if any voice actors who played characters in the game would be interested in collaborating on their respective songs.

Supernatural, VALORANT, and dream collaborations

Besides enjoying Stranger Things and Overwatch 2, Azazus also loves the show Supernatural. He says it had a big impact on him when he was younger, and because Supernatural still has a dedicated fanbase even though it ended in November 2020, he might create a song to celebrate the story of Sam and Dean.

“If the right idea hits, I’d love to create something that honors that legacy,” he said.

He said he’s eager to collaborate with Carolina on another song inspired by her VALORANT character. However, he wants to finish their current project about Sombra before starting anything new, but definitely plans to work with Carolina again in the future.

Azazus mentioned he’d love to collaborate with singers like XG, Drake, and T-Pain. He’s also interested in brand partnerships, specifically with Overwatch 2, or potentially with Dead by Daylight and Pokémon.

“Music, voice, story — all of it excites me,” he said.

Azazus voices Dice in NovaStars AC

Azazus, known for his voice and storytelling, is now trying his hand at voice acting! He recently shared with Xpsp that he’s voicing the character of Dice, a bounty hunter, in the game NovaStars AC.

I’ve also started doing voice acting! I’m playing a character named Dice, a bounty hunter, in a new anime series called NovaStars AC. It’s exciting because Christopher Sabat and Nicolas Roye are also in the cast, and I can’t wait for fans to hear what we’ve been working on when the creators are ready to share it.
