From One Iceman to the Next: Drake Gifted a Full-Scale F1 Car Ice Sculpture for New Release

Summary

  • Drake was gifted a life-sized ice sculpture of a Formula 1 car to celebrate the record-breaking release of his new project, ICEMAN
  • The massive art piece was conceptualized by producer Spinz Beats and hand-delivered alongside OVO Gelo to Drake’s home on release day
  • The sculpture is a direct homage to the iconic McLaren MP4-21 ice car made for F1 legend Kimi Räikkönen at the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix

Drake’s album releases are always major events, and his newest one, ICEMAN, was no exception. To celebrate its record-breaking debut, Drake was surprised with a unique gift connecting his music with the world of racing. Producer Daniel “Spinz” Forrest and the OVO Gelo team created a life-sized ice sculpture of a Formula 1 car and delivered it right to Drake’s home.

This incredible ice sculpture wasn’t created on a whim; it was carefully planned over twenty years. It started at the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix, where a full-size ice sculpture of Kimi Räikkönen’s McLaren MP4-21 was made to honor the F1 driver, nicknamed “The Iceman” for his calm and cool attitude. When Spinz realized the 20th anniversary of this memorable event coincided with Drake’s new album release, he knew he had to recreate the sculpture.

Spinz recently shared on Instagram a stunning project: a recreation of a famous motorsport moment, built exactly twenty years after the original. To make sure every detail was perfect, the team was able to get the original digital design files for the MP4-21 car. With help from Formula 1 experts Nick Martin and Mark Norris, and design work by Mike at MAWG Design, they meticulously crafted the recreation before delivering it to Drake’s home.

With ICEMAN breaking streaming records, this release is being hailed as one of the most creative and successful album launches in recent hip-hop. It’s a striking visual demonstration of how OVO consistently sets itself apart when celebrating important moments in music and culture.
