Yen Press is translating Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Prelude into English for release following its Japanese debut on April 17, 2024. This prequel delves into events that transpire before the main narrative of one of Crunchyroll’s most cherished and acclaimed anime series.
In the prequel, we’ll delve deeper into the origins of the main trio, providing additional context to their past. Moreover, it will offer a more comprehensive understanding of characters Kanne and Lawine, who first appeared in the storyline centered around the First-Class Mage Exam.

When is the novel coming out?
Although the publisher hasn’t disclosed a specific launch date yet, enthusiasts should be excited because Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is set to air on screens in the coming year, with a planned release in January 2026.
Keiichiro Saito steps down as director for the next season, instead taking on a supervisory role. Instead, Tomoya Kitagawa will be in charge of directing the second season. Exciting news for fans, as they can purchase the Blu-ray version starting October this year.
