David Schwimmer’s show, modeled after a popular ’90s horror franchise, was canceled following only two seasons of airing.
In a different phrasing: The actor famous for playing in Friends appears in Goosebumps, a humorous fantasy series based on RL Stine’s book collection. Originally premiered in October 2023, the show won’t continue for its third season as Disney+ decided to cancel it. However, it is said that Sony Pictures is exploring possibilities to transfer the production to another platform (as reported by Variety).
The 2018 version of Goosebumps deviated from the 1995 TV series by constructing a major storyline for each season instead of per episode. In the second season, David Schwimmer plays Anthony Brewer, a character who is a former botany professor and the divorced father of the main characters, teen twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin (Sam McCarthy).
While on vacation at their father’s place, the twins along with their companions decide to explore what is believed to be a haunted old fort. Unknowingly, they trigger a sequence of strange occurrences linked to a mystery disappearance that happened years ago.

In the first season, a new ensemble was introduced, featuring Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Mark-Paul Gosselaar (better known as Zack Morris from previous shows), Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price.
In the initial episode, a team of five high school students delve into the mystery surrounding the unfortunate demise of a fellow teenager named Harold Biddle.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, both seasons have garnered a mix of positive and favorable comments from critics, with season ratings of 74% and 77% as of this writing.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve noticed that while some viewers have pointed out the show’s tendency to follow familiar horror tropes, labeling it as “generic horror” catered towards “Stranger Things” enthusiasts, they’ve also commended its innovative and mature adaptation of the cherished book series, as reported by RogerEbert.com.
On IMDb, fans of the original series have pointed out the differences with the source material.
Some have observed that the newer series presents older main characters and delves into significantly grim subject matter compared to the original books and initial television adaptation. One individual expressed that Goosebumps had “a promising start,” but ultimately failed to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
Goosebumps seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Disney+.
