Freya Allan feels like she's playing "a different Ciri" in The Witcher season 4, one closer to the games

As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of The Witcher series, I eagerly await the upcoming fourth season of the Netflix show with bated breath. Freya Allan’s portrayal of Ciri has been nothing short of captivating, and her transformation from a pampered princess to a fierce warrior-in-training has been a thrilling journey.

For the past three seasons, Freya Allan has portrayed Ciri on “The Witcher”, transforming her from a spoiled princess to a trainee witcher and more. The third season of Netflix’s series saw Ciri being transported to a distant desert, captured by Nilfgaardian soldiers, only to be freed by a band of youthful outlaws called the Rats. In the upcoming season 4, she will journey alongside these fresh characters while Geralt of Rivia, her mentor, searches the continent extensively in an attempt to find her.

If The Witcher TV series on Netflix keeps adhering to Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, as seems likely, it will continue to balance the storylines between these books and the video games developed by CD Projekt Red. However, it’s essential to note that the show has always occupied a unique space, as the game series takes place after the conclusion of the books and Sapkowski played no part in them. As for Ciri in The Witcher season 4, portrayed by Freya Allan, her character will blend aspects from both book and game versions, at least visually.

Allan mentioned during his conversation with Collider, “You might not have noticed yet, but she’s also sporting a fresh new hairstyle and makeup in the game. I believe when you finally see this, it will connect all the dots nicely. Essentially, we aimed to blend elements from the books and the game. I was deeply involved with the costumes, and I wanted it to be a fusion of both aspects, giving fans that touch. As soon as I put on that costume along with the new hair and makeup, it feels like an entirely new Ciri. It’s such a thrill! We’ve never seen her looking this way before, and I can’t wait for everyone to witness what unfolds.” It’s exciting!

It looks like we still have some time before we can watch the new version of Ciri; it’s likely that the fourth season of The Witcher will premiere around 2025, and Netflix has mentioned they might release it in installments. Besides Ciri, expect to see familiar faces like Yennefer (played by Anya Chalotra) and Jaskier (Joey Batey). Geralt, the main character, will be played by Liam Hemsworth this time, as he steps into Henry Cavill’s role. This change has piqued everyone’s interest; will it turn out to be a success or a disappointment? We’ll find out soon enough.

While Freya Allan continues to stay active, she’s leveraging her fame from “The Witcher” by taking on a part in the hit movie “War for the Planet of the Apes,” currently available on Max.
