Fresh Vanguard fears for fans as LoL anti-cheat suddenly goes haywire

Fresh Vanguard fears for fans as LoL anti-cheat suddenly goes haywire

As a longtime League of Legends player with countless hours invested and rankings to maintain, I find myself utterly dismayed by today’s widespread Vanguard-related issues. The sudden “VAN” errors at inopportune moments have led to frustrating and unavoidable game losses, leaving me questioning the reliability of this anti-cheat system.

Widespread “VAN” errors have led to unavoidable game losses.

Today, players of League of Legends have encountered unexpected disconnection problems related to Vanguard, affecting both North American and European gaming communities. These unfortunate incidents have resulted in unavoidable defeats for many.

On October 8th, unexpected problems at the kernel level occurred, leading to “VAN” errors appearing inappropriately during matches, which subsequently kicked affected players out of the League of Legends lobby. These glitches have been especially disruptive because they can simultaneously remove up to seven or eight players from a game. This issue has been verified by this Xpsp author at least once.

In certain instances, players of LoL have been encountering problems with the Vanguard boots leading to blue screen crashes – similar to the initial reports Riot debunked about bricking when the software was initially launched – and even overheating CPUs. One affected player expressed their frustration by stating, “I’m steering clear of League until this problem gets resolved.

One of the biggest complaints from players, outside the obvious, is that the developers have failed to turn on loss protection. Getting booted still results in a loss in ranked or normal LoL matches.

Riot responds but LoL fans still furious

The Riot Games development team promptly responded to these widespread problems, acknowledging they’ve received some reports about them and are currently looking into the matter.

Based on updates from Riot’s official account (@LoLDev, previously Twitter), it appears that the Riot technicians have identified the root cause of the problem and potentially found a solution. They are currently implementing a fix to address this issue, which is expected to be resolved soon. Esports.gg has contacted the League of Legends PR team for additional details about what led to the initial problem.

At the time of release, no League of Legends (LoL) players have received a refund for lost ranking points in their ranked matches. It seems extremely rare that such refunds would be issued to competitive players as well.

The missing LP (League Points) and the overall mistakes have sparked renewed doubts about Vanguard’s participation in LoL, with fans expressing this sentiment once more, reminiscent of the strong reaction seen back in May when the system became operational at the kernel level.

On Tuesday, an angry League of Legends (LoL) enthusiast expressed disappointment by stating that Vanguard was an error. Other fans labeled it as ‘worthless junk’ and found it frustrating that they were required to maintain it on their systems.

In recent months, Vanguard experienced a significant boost due to Riot’s announcement about reducing botting in League of Legends (LoL) queues. Simultaneously, the update was released for Mac users. At the time, Riot’s head of anti-cheats, Phillip Koskinas, expressed that this update had made significant strides towards achieving their goals and called it a “win” to bring LoL’s anti-cheat system into modern times. However, this recent issue might have dampened some of the positive sentiments from August.
