At the tender age of 31, the renowned French rapper, Werenoi, tragically passed away from a heart attack, mere hours before his scheduled performance.
On Friday night, Jeremy Bana Owana, also known as Werenoi, was admitted to the hospital following a sudden cardio-respiratory failure, as reported by the French news source Pure Charts.
From my professional perspective, I must share that, on a regrettable Saturday morning, I found myself reporting a tragic event – a dear individual’s passing, following an extended stay in critical care.
Werenoi had been due to appear at the Azar Club in Lyon for an exclusive showcase on May 17.
Although no formal announcement has been made by his family or management, an outpouring of tributes swiftly appeared on social media within the French music community.
Spotify France posted a tribute saying, “X passed away last night.” (This phrase conveys the same message as the original but is rephrased for clarity and natural flow.)

Over the past five years, I’ve been utterly captivated by the Montreuil rapper, whose impact on rap and French music has been indelible. Now, with heavy heart, I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and those who cherished him most.
In a post thought to honor Werenoi, music producer Babs penned: ‘May you rest in peace, my dear brother. I love you!!’
Djadja & Dinaz have said they’re pushing back the release of their new music video; their condolences are with Werenoi’s loved ones.)
And Radio host Fred Musa penned: ‘My condolences to his loved ones.’
TopMob has contacted PGP Records for comment.
In the realm of French rap, Werenoi was a highly recognized personality. At the most recent Flammes awards ceremony, he clinched the title for Album of the Year.
It is said that he didn’t show up personally, instead sending a video greeting. In the message, he informed his followers about sustaining a ‘severe injury’, which was evident by the visible cast on his arm.
In 2023, Werenoi’s album Carre became the top-selling record in France, marking a significant rise in popularity. The following year, he achieved even greater success with Pyramide.
The rapper has over 6.7 million listeners on Spotify and is well-known for his popular tracks like Scarface, Solitaire, Laboratoire, and Chemin d’Or.)
In addition, his album “Carre” held the top spot as the highest-selling record in France during the year 2023. Moreover, he experienced success in 2024 with the release of “Pyramide”.
