French Open DJ disrespects Jannik Sinner with Neil Diamond song
In the final of the French Open, it was a nail-biting match as both exceptional young competitors played exceptionally well. However, the crowd in Paris appeared to be predominantly rooting for Carlos Alcaraz. The 22-year-old eventually claimed victory on the clay court and is known for being quite expressive during matches, particularly when displaying optimism.
Despite his reputation as a sinner on the court, he’s widely admired off it. Much like Alcaraz, he’s often viewed as a friendly individual. Interestingly, even the DJ controlling the French Open music seemed to favor Alcaraz too.
The tennis game extended to five rounds, remaining uncertain until the decisive tie-breaker. Instead of a standard selection, an unexpected choice – Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” – filled the speakers.

The tune is frequently played during Boston Red Sox games when they are leading and on the verge of victory. It’s also been adopted at various other sporting events, but it seems that tennis doesn’t have a consistent “home” audience. However, this wasn’t the case in Paris; the crowd and the DJ were supporting Alcaraz.
After Alcaraz had successfully recovered from being two sets behind, he secured a game that appeared to be a pivotal moment towards winning the match or forcing a decisive tie-break, where he held an advantage.
Essentially, the disregard towards Jannik Sinner felt quite unjustified. He holds the ATP’s top rank, not a villainous role in tennis. However, is it true that he was recently suspended due to two positive drug tests in March 2024? Yes, but the initial findings suggested no intentional misconduct on his part, and there was insufficient proof to establish guilt.
Was it the factor determining who the spectators favored? It ought not to have been, as it didn’t influence Sinner in any of his other games. Instead, they were backing Alcaraz.
The DJ should have received a firm reprimand following his decision to openly support Alcaraz. Sinner, being 23 years old, is expected to vie for Roland Garros titles for several more years and potentially win one or two. Here’s hoping that not all referees favor Alcaraz like the DJ does.
It remains unclear which team Neil Diamond may have supported during the match, as no official statement has been made about his potential interest. However, it’s worth noting that the song “Sweet Caroline” continues to bring joy years after its debut in 1969.
